Putting the sealer on is a major milestone! Now just a quick lick of paint, shove the motor in and you’re done, 3weeks max????

Ha ha ha ..... yeah....  :D

They released the entries yesterday for Drag Challenge in Oct.
In 6 hours and 8 minutes, all 250 spots were taken and paid for.
Then they released the wait list, that was filled this early this morning with 100 more.

I was thinking of getting on the wait list after Easter, as i'm not 100% certain we cou0ld be ready and tested.

Bummer..... but it shows, how good the event is.

The HQ monaro that ran 7:35 in 2019, ran a 6:90 something this week just gone..... waaaaay fast for a street car.

Today, will be a heat gun and scraper and get this black Shit off.

The garnet isn't great at removing it.
Going to be a long day i think.

Stick your thumb up your ass. rotate clockwise for 15 minutes and that should wind you up.
The greatest gift you can give someone is your time, because when you give your time you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.

The last 4 days, have either been, scrapping off underbody sealer or mowing grass.

Sick of doing both.

What a friggin day yesterday was...... my back is telling me so.

6:30am start, i figured i could be ready to blast by 7:00
Thank Christ there was no wind, got the 9 x 9metre tarp out and pegged.
I had to get the car outside by myself.
I tied the front of the mower to back of the cradle/rotisserie and went gently, gently.

Sorted and blasting by 7ish...... ha ha ha..... yeah right.
Dragged 4 ton of crap outside and saw the clock go past 7:30 whilst ordering an alternator for the Statesman.
Oh yeah, the statesman killed that...... needed that like i need more haemorrhoids too.
Dougie had that covered with a brand new unit delivered to the house by about 2:30..... gotta love good friends.... free delivery too.

About 10 to 8, i hooked into the outer portions of the inner mudguard sections and it went well, really well.
All those hours/days of scraping the old bitumen tar underbody sealer off was paying dividends today.

Around 9:00, Astrid helped me get the car up on its side....... for about the 100th time. (RDO for her)

Then, it was just more of the same until 10 when John Bishop arrived...... he should wear a cape.
The hardest part of the whole deal, is sweeping up and sifting the garnet to get ready to go again.
Trust me when i say, you do that many times over.
John took a heap of pressure off me and my dodgy knee and back.

By 12, i was pretty sure we could do the lot in one day.... yaay.
John said he had to go by 2pm. (he left at 2:25)

We got the whole underside done and ready to do the epoxy sealer for the bare metal.
Got the spray gun ready, Shit mixed, plug the gun in only to find, it won't spray paint.
I'm pretty excited and inspired by that, seeing the turd had a bit of thinners put through it the day before as a test.

Astrid is in the middle of doing some spraying with her little beaver.....(leave it alone)
Swiped that, her paint out, cleaned and my stuff in.

Lucky for me, it didn't matter too much on finish with the sealer..... the Shit poured through it.
Her beaver is designed for thicker paint than automotive stuff..... but we got it on and without too much issue.
At least i know, everything is well and truly sealed and covered.

John helped me rotate the car back to "normal" and got going.
I then had to pack everything away, which was pretty enjoyable, knowing what we had achieved.

I really expected it to be a 2 day job, and it would've been if not not for John.

Panadol rapid will be my friend today doing the Statesman, my back is still in killer mode..... the alternator comes in from underneath.
Who designs these late model Shit cars......

It was a ripper feeling.....  :cup:

The entire undercarriage will still cop a coat of that wrinkly style black body deadener yet, along with the engine bay getting normal paint.
Shane is lending me a rust proofing sprayer as well, so whilst on the rotisserie, it will get rust proofed into the bargain.
It still has a little bit of time still in the rack.

The worst part of yesterday, was blasting the rear wheel wells, as the sand shoots everywhere, including back at ya.
I'm still getting sand out of my bum crack..... at least, i think its sand.

If i can get my finger out and actually get some Shit done, the engine bay will be painted in 2 weeks or so.

If there was one fairly amusing thing to come out of yesterday......
I have light sensitive eyes these days, so i tend to walk with my head down a bit.
Now, my mate John Bishop is a tad shorter than me and had opened the roller door to a height suitable to him.
FUK ME, walked my forehead straight into the friggin door..... nearly took the bastard off the tracks i reckon.
Not sure what made the most noise either, me bellowing like an old bull, the roller door clanging and bouncing all around the place or John laughing

This is a brilliant thread. Go back to page one and it looks like a rotting hulk almost beyond redemption. Now it looks like it's closing in on the Meccano Set stage when "all" that needs to happen is to bolt it all together.

You've done a power of work and I'm hanging out to see the finished product...:-)

Ha ha ha.... you've never met me.... have you.

I'm like a blending of the Fonz and Homer Simpson, and not always in that order either.

Settle down.... the Zephyr had a blistering 86hp when new.
The mower only has 26...... hmmm, power to weight, you might just have something there.

I'll get the ol girls Statesman sorted today.... then back to the Zef

The next few days will be getting the engine bay ready for some colour.
Then we'll attack the underside with he body deadener stuff.

It will be nice to see underneath in black and the engine bay green.

Ha ha ha, i went back to page 1, just to see how far of the original plan i'd gotten.

THIS ALL NOW SET IN CEMENT.
1960 Ford MK 2 Zephyr series 2 low line. (tick and still on line)
It will be a pale mint green with a white roof. (tick and still on line)
With air conditioning, venetians, spats, sun visor and Dodge Lancer hubcaps. (Scrub the spats and Dodge Lancer caps. The spats didn't clear the wheels, and we ended up with chrome wheels)

Interior, will be light green with some dark green contrasts and dark green carpet. (tick, and still on line)
It will have a front and back chrome moly roll cage as per the IHRA specs. (tick and still on line)

The driveline will be, a Turbo Barra engine, a beefed 4 speed auto (overdrive) and a braced and shortened Ford diff. (Scrub the 4 speed box, that's become a T400 GM trans for the sake of strength and longevity and i can use a transbrake as well)

Whilst I still need to do some sums on the final figures, I would expect around 700hp at the wheels. (Tick, still looking at 700- 750hp at the wheels.)

So, overall, we haven't really wandered off the original plan too much at all.

Pic 1. The day it arrived home on the 6th of June 2020.
Pic 2. Where we were after the full mock up of everything on the 8th of Jan. 2021.
Pic 3. This week of course..... 12th of April 2021.

Oh bugger, doesn't look like i've done much really..... but i have, honest
