There was an old bloke selling his identical Ute over here. Had it for $15k, he just finished “restoring” it and looked fantastic from 20ft. Up close it was terrible, cheap Chinese tyres, more bog than a sewer plant, that yellow Monaro had less rust...

Buyer beware

Kev when you get it back to bare metal, Go over it with this stuff or similar ..Some panel beaters / painters reckon once treated its been good with no surface rust on the metal, even up to 3 years later .. About $50 / 5ltr .

That's probably just dilute phosphoric acid. I made an extra bed support for our camper over 15 years ago out of mild steel tube and wiped that all over it. I never fitted it, but it's stayed rust free in storage.

The mock up was completed by Friday afternoon. YAAAAY.
I'm liking the pipes..... Single 3 and a half inch to up and over the diff.
Then twin 3 and half inch tail pipes.
Keeps the car balanced and symmetrical to look at.

The car has already begun the strip down to a bare shell process now.

My welder guy will be on site, 6am next Saturday.

doesn't look like this anymore.

Pulled my tranny first to see how hard it was...... piss easy, out in a flash and on the floor.
Pulled the engine, with the flex plate off............. piss easy, out in a flash and on the floor.

Pulled the entire front sheet metal as well..... cars looking unloved now.

I do like the tucked in look of the rear wheels here though.
The fronts with the Nissan end, fill the guards up nicely.

Went and got all the bolts and Shit for the rotisserie this morning as well..... not long now.

Arrrch, had to do a bit of mowing as well..... i'm a bit buggered now.

I would thing it should be low and slow. Something that old, would need to be well tenderised before going on a rotisserie. ;D

Looking good, think I actually prefer to look with the mismatched panels etc, even more sleeper that way.

I did consider it briefly..... could have it on the road in maybe 3 months that way..... and cheaper.

But, I bitch slapped myself and got back to the original plan.

Today is...... doors off, seats out, steering column out, booster and M.C. off and the rear bumper off.
Then i'll cut and modify the cradle mounts (sounds like a place in tassie) to get the car spinning.

Like meatloaf through a straw, so too, are the days of our lives.

OH BUGGER, I've canned the welding for tomorrow cause i'm friggin hopeless.

By the time I got the "don't rock the cradle" set up, I've lost so much time huh.
So, we're down for next Saturday now.....  :'(

A handful of bolts and the remaining parts of the diff are out and the car is just a shell.
But with so much Shit to prep ready for Ben to just get stuck in, it was a no brainer.

Plus, we're down for 38 degree day tomorrow too.

So, little to report that is good news..... but... we are moving forward.... I think.

So chatting with a lady from work who has some old HR's and hot rods (and hubby owns this I believe https://www.whichcar.com.au/features/survivor-1971-cfs-bedford-van-the-judge) etc.. she was saying you cant get full rego on older cars anymore unless they meet current regs - airbags, retracting seatbelts, disc brakes, and more..
Thus why so many are on club rego, and those on full rego are so expensive. True?

different rules in every state mate.

Ours will go through with the engineering guy and get a tick of approval and a mod plate.

Bit like using a private certifier when doing a shed or an add on to the house type of thing.

S.A. for a lot of years, were really whacky on LHD cars.
If had anything aftermarket, even as little as a later radio or paint colour, no rego for you.

What a difference a week makes.
Now, if anyone reads my posts, you'd know we should've been welding the body yesterday.
I just couldn't manage to get everything done in time.
 It's next Saturday now.

Stripped the ol Zephyr down till it was a tad naked.
Now, stripping is one thing, putting everything away and out of the way, that's another story.
With the flexplate off, the engine is a good fit in and out now.
I would've had a good 14 of clearence to play with.
I'll wrap the engine in some foam when it goes back in for the final time.

Managed to work out how the ol rack went together.
Found the back crossbar was miles too short.
Then found the keel bar was way too short as well.
But it went together ok in the end and it even turns. YAAAY.
Big shout out to my mate Dave Reeves for the lend of it.

Shane weaved his magic and knocked up the exhuast manifold for a test fit.
This was the second go at it sort of, the 1st attempt just wouldn't be able to deliver an honest 1,000HP at the flywheel.
Once i have done the test fit of it and all that crap, Shane will cut loose with the MIG and do a number on it for me.

All in all, not a bad week.

I'm powering through the stuff to be ready for Saturday.

Yesterday and today have been wicked days....... however.

There is a cost for everything.

1. I can barely walk, as my right knee is crippling me at the moment.
2. My back is aching, I have to sit down to pull my undies and shorts on.
3. The left shoulder is shot to Shit.
4. My friggin toe nails have been turning a really bad shade of yellow.

Panadol rapid has been masking the first 3, but I spoke to the doc on why my toe nails were going yellow.

Turned out to be nothing much in the end, just poor flow from the bladder and down ol Mr. Wobbly.
If I keep him clamped until my eyeballs are about to pop, then let him go, I can still hit the box trailer from the shed roller door.
I decided to stop wearing thongs and throw some boots on, its easier on my eye balls.

I had a talk to a mate yesterday who lives 300klm away.

Ummm, hey Noel..... you interested in blowing some 2 pack over the underside and engine bay of the Zephyr?

Yeah Kev, was going to come out and visit you soon anyway...... of course i'll do the paint for you.

Excellent.... m maybe in 4 or 5 weeks?

You tell me when, i'll be there with spray gun and compressor.

You want me to paint the whole car for you.......

Yes please.  :cup:

This is the Austin he did for me about 20 months ago.

Not sure if your on stalkerbook or not kev  but this group sounds interesting

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1652252048396589

Farm Wrecks, Rusty Relics & pre 1980 Car Sales Australia
Private group
134.0K members

Here are a couple rules and tips:
* Group is for pre 1980 and below, 1980 is the bubble and will be accepted, cars can be posted without a price only if they are not for sale, any for sale cars or parts must have a price, not offers or EOI, the group is not to be used as a highest bidder wins. This group is unlike others that have 'rusty' in their name but then allow a 2010 Kia to be posted, this group sticks to what it is set out to achieve.

* some parts will be accepted to be posted as long as they are original parts but wheels, tyres, electrics and aftermarket parts will be deleted. If you have multiple parts, please put them in one post, not several individual posts.

* If you are requesting to join, please note if your profile is blank or blocked from being able to see you will be declined, If you are genuinely wanting to join then this shouldn't be a problem. I am not one to just approve anyone that wants to join like other groups do to make up the numbers. Good luck with the spammers they have let in and I can tell you most large groups just approve everyone including trolls/spammers. I see when approving which other groups they are members of.

* This is not a place to advertise businesses without admin approval as that would then flood the group with business posts, however businesses can reply to questions asked. First time a business will have the post removed, second time will have you removed. Links to upcoming clearing sales allowed. Links to active auctions on cars like Ebay will also be removed.
