Not too much I can show you or tell you this week-end.

Lots of planning stages for the mounts being done at the moment.

But have a look at the following clip, this was day 5 of Drag Challenge 2017.
For me, this is the test of a true street car.... 5 days, 5 tracks.....

HOLY FRIGGIN CRAP......  ???

Trying to mount this Barra is a friggin turd huh.

I'm about 8 hours in and I have the left side done, ready for final welding and gussets.
It had to be done in two sections that assemble in the car as you go.

Not sure who the fukkwit was that suggested a Barra in a MK2 Zephyr, but he needs rooting..... it could've been me too.

The gearbox will be piss easy to do......

Tomorrow however, i'll start on the R/H side, which needs a bit of special attention to clear the steering shaft from the Rack and Pinion.

When its done, it will be terrific and I have no issues with a failure or anything.
But stuff me sideways...... getting it sturdy enough not to fail, it looks like its been built by a mental patient.

We are mounted off the left frame rail and the front X member.
The side bits and the engine form their own second X member.

Not sure if any pics of these plates will make the internet...... pretty fugly.

Couldnd be worse than some oxy cut 2mm bent plate and a couple of Hi tensile bolts, Cocky Shit welded together engine mounts,  that a mate used to fit a 202 into a Landrover .. Will say they never broke.
Which surprised the hell out of me, given the absolut pizzling that landy copped on road and off .

The hard part for us, is we we'll bring the revs up on the rattle box against the trans brake.

At the drop of a button, we unleash more hp than a MK2 Zephyr should ever have wedged up its blurter.

I need it to remain a straight six, and not a slant six..... but hey, with me, anything's possible i'm afraid.

Feeling pretty happy.....

Both front mounts are made and the engine is sitting there all nice and happy.

The bubble in the spirit level has stayed inside the little square.... yeeeeehaaaaa.  :cup:

Now, i can start on the gearbox member tomorrow.

Then pull it all out again and weld it all up properly.

This has been a real head fukk getting everything in place.
BUT,

1. We've used a standard rear hump sump with no mods.
2. We've cleared the main X member.
3. We can still access the power steering hoses.
4. The engine hasn't fell on the floor and its been sitting there on its own now for 47 minutes.

Oh man, i finally completed the x member to stop my big arse tranny dragging its bum on the ground.  ;D LOL

Everything can go to the welding and fab guy on Tuesday afternoon.

I tell ya, some of my welds, well, two of 'em..... are mint. The slag curled up and fell off on its own.  :cup:
Then, there is the rest..... looks like a flock of pigeons have crapped all over 'em.  :-[

At least now, the barra and TH400 box are happily sitting in position.

Did my head in a bit getting the ideas to work..... but work they will.

Curious, what fuel is going into it, to run at the drags? Normal or can you drop some avgas into it?  ???

We'll use pump 98 on the road and most likely, tune it for pump 98 at the track.

It may be set up for E85 at the track, which was my original plan, but no longer set in cement.

Footy Shorts Shane will lead the way in this department however.
He's very experienced in getting this Shit to work.

The Haltech computer we run, can and will, make adjustments on the fly to keep it all alive.

I know of an instance, where the E85 was rubbish.
The Haltech system pulled timing out to the point, it ran a good 1/2 a second slower, but no damage to the engine.

Woohoo, having a day off from working on the car today after a pretty mental and physical few weeks.

I might dig some more of the pool out.

This is probably worth a watch for those who are curious about the Barra, especially in a sleeper drag car.

A few months back, the Cresta went 8:16.....   :cup:

On Saturday night at wallybank, a commodore wagon, that had already run 8:20's and drove from Bris to Mel and completed drag challenge and drove home again, did some testing.

Ran  a 7:54 @ 184 mph.... goes ok huh.

Bit of an update on where we are at the moment.

The mounts and cross member are at the welders place. (hoping, I might get them back today)
With the car on stands, and the engine and box on stands, there's not too much I can do at the moment.

The trans shield is here, and I need to trim the floor a tad more for some clearance.
I also need to order the deep pan for auto, (about $300 worth) so I can fab the straps that pass under the trans.

The steering connectors I require from a Nissan rack to a XF Falcon column looked to pose a bit of a problem.
A mate has put me onto a hot rod mob down the coast, so, a couple of hundred bucks later, we should be able to achieve what I want pretty easy.... I hope.
Most likely go down there Wednesday and see what we can achieve.

The other  issue, has been finding a 7 inch booster and 1 inch Master cylinder to work the brakes.
The same hot rod mob has several to choose from, so feeling pretty good about that too now.
$250 gets me a chrome double diaphragm booster and polished master cylinder.....flash as.
I'll probably buy that at the same time.

The diff is next on the list now for some love.

The wheels for the back, i'm just not happy with finish wise, so this week, i'll order 2 brand new chrome rims for it.
I'll see if I can grab these from down the coast on the same day...... gunna be some butt hurt coming up.

That means getting a brand new pair of Mickey Thompson drag radials as well.
No point putting an old pair of "set up" tyres on new rims.

Shane and I can then measure the ol turd up, and away we go..... you would think.

As soon as the mounts are back, i need to turn the car around for maximum light and space, to piss about with the diff.
The welding and fab guy will measure up everything for the new spring hangers for springs to go inwards 2 inches each side.
Once I have the springs sorted, then, I can just hang the old diff back in for a trailer trip to Shane on the sunny coast.

Parts required before I go to Shane's....  :'(
1 x pair of Gazzard Brothers caltracs.
1 x 31 spline trutrac centre.
1 x Speedy diffs alloy brace for the diff. (stops the carrier caps from splaying out)
2 x new rear chrome, 15 x 7 rims.
2 x 235/60 x 15 drag radials.
1 x 1350 pinion for the diff. (in a pinch, I can go a 1350/1310 uni joint, but sweating that someone does a 1350/1350 BW pinion.)

At least when we turn the car around, for a brief moment, it might look like a car again..... sort of.

Watch this space......  ;D

Not sure on the sizing but old mate from The Skid Factory on Youtube is always recommending one of the Subaru boosters for tight spots.

Yeah, i was aware of the Scooby do boosters. (thanks for posting that info too)

The hard part is, all boosters and M/C's are so friggin ugly.
This thing won't be a show car, but I still want it to look the goods if I ever choose to bung it in a cars n coffee day.

I even considered, putting the booster inside the firewall and the M/C  in the engine bay.
Then, everyone thinks it has no booster, and i'm too old and cranky these days to bother explaining to some numpty where it is.
Plus, ease of access isn't great then either..
The good part of the chrome/polished hot rod one, is they are about as good as you get, as far as being easy on the eye.

Could always do what I did on the Escort V6 ..Mount a Nissan C20 Vanette booster / master cyl  pedal assembly  up under the dash, with the fill resiviour in the engine bay ..
On the 4wd Escort I used a Mitsubishi L-300 booster / master / pedal assembly up under the dash ..All work fine and tucks neatly up out of sight  .. From memory the L-300 master cyl is 1" bore .

Edit :
And NO I did not read what you said above, Till just now  ;D ;D

Some do, some don't.

The Fleetwood is power boosted drum brakes..

With disc brakes, very few wouldn't be power boosted.
