Weight transfer on  launch tunabillity is a factor Kev would be looking for might have to add / minus a little weight ..
Getting the rear to hook up nicely with the buggy springs and have a good weight transfer / lift / traction  on launch etc is where the art of it all comes into play .

Is there science behind the #1 pot sitting inline with the strut towers?

I would have thought with that much hp a little more weight in front of the wheels could be a good thing?

Apart from what Edz has mentioned above, for a car to corner and brake, the weight needs to be back a tad.

Remember back to the early 6 cyl Cortina's and Centura's... under brakes, they would try to plow the front bumper into the dirt.
Now picture, turning a corner with a heap of weight, in front of the turning axis.
It will have the weight past the axis.... little bit like a big heavy box on the tail of a caravan, but around the other way.
Then place that weight, as much as is possible and functional, above or behind that axis.

I would expect, if this thing was decked out with some good Yokahama road/race tyres, it could carve up a corner pretty decent..... for a 61 year old car.

And yes Edz, I think you will see the ol Z car pick the wheels, I would hazard a guess, maybe a foot in the air, then carry 'em for 10 or 12 feet.
Just a nice gentle set down under power...... would look pretty cool I think.

But not like this, this pic was mid wheelstand..... went heaps higher than this.

Look at the left rear tire distortion without the weight on it, tall and flabby big time ..

Just after the shot was taken, the left rear got lift off.
It became a unicycle and headed for the left lane, which got my attention pretty quickly.

Frightened the fukk outta the guy in that lane too.....  ;D

Got some tyres fitted to rims yesterday for the front.

Bolted the left front up and eyeballed it against the body line.
There is no friggin way, this side of the next ice age, these friggin wheels are gunna go under the front guard.
To the point, I've already spoken to a guy about doing a pump on the front guards. ??? :-[ Really don't wanna do that.

1st thing today, set the camber to neutral..... grabbed the left front guard and bolted the bastard on.
Gotta say, my heart really isn't in it today.

Small glimmer of hope, looking at the guard side on, it was kind of maybe doable.
Walked out the front..... fukkin bingo..... sits under the guard pretty damn good.

Morning tea now, then do the right side..... which SHOULD be fine, based on the left one.

After spending $2,000 on brakes and suspension, $250 on rims, $220 on tyres, a lot hinged on this today.
Ya can't really do one without the other, measuring and Shit is fine, but its the final fit that either spells doom or gloom.

Strike 1 for my side.  :cup:

Drop it on the ground,  load it up with Motor and gearbox weight then roll it forwards and back a car length to set the struts . That would  give you a better idea of how its going for clearances then do a lock to lock with the steering . [ Yeah yeah I know .. Im telling ya how to suck eggs ]    ;D.

Lots more weight to go in yet Edz, and anyway, the strut adaptors will be a final thing I think, right before the engine bay paint goes on.
Loaded the radiator back in for the second time now and the first time for a grille to be fitted.
I had 4 to choose from, so grabbed the first one and it looks kind of neat in there.

All done to check for space.

Pretty good room in there for a decent intercooler and A/C condenser. WINNER.

Auto cooler is going under the floor with a separate lecky fan running on it.

If I didn't know better... and I do... you'd nearly swear this idea had crossed their minds back in 1959.

Time for a few more pics.

Ask.... and you shall receive.  :D

Pic 1.... the second pair of wheels with the 3inch backspace after I second guessed myself.  :-[

Pic 2.... I was starting to Shit myself now, as I began to wonder if i'd really fukked up.

Pic 3.... It still looks way too wide even here, but there is no weight on it either.

Pic 4.... Feeling pretty good now, not Shitting myself at all..... just the odd fart, as I had the drivers side still to do.

Pic 5.... Decided by now, i'm not as silly as I look..... thank fukk for that.  ;D

I'm waiting on some Tuff Mounts out of South Aust., so decided to do some mock up and checking.
I can't do much more with locating the engine spot on until the mounts get here.

Just some random pics.... you'll get the idea.

Pissing around with the engine location today in readiness for the mounts that are on their way.

Everything up top, spot on... firewall to rad support panel, crank bolt to frame rails... the works.
Straight edges every which way but loose.

The car is square to the floor and has been triple checked with spirit levels.
The engine is now square with spirit levels and has been triple checked.

Hop underneath, and everything seems out of whack.

Relocate everything underneath and I mean everything.... all square and good to go.

Get up top, it's all over the place like a mad woman's Shit.  ???

The car is square..... the engine is square.... the concrete shed floor is square......  ???

Now, it wasn't a terribly bright light bulb that lit up..... a bit sickly really.
In a very Wile E Coyote sort of moment, a light bulb did come on however...... I wonder if the engines are centered in these old turds.

OH GOODY, the trans/tailshaft tunnel is offset to the passenger side by 27mm.

Redo the set-up.... looks MUCH better. :cup: Underneath and up top....

Going to grab a laser level thingy tomorrow, as I want this millimeter perfect.
I want to sight the centre of the tunnel to the centre of the crank, to the centre of the diff.

Being 27 mm to the left side, won't do any harm to the car either.
They always hoist the left side the highest, so it will work in my favour, ever so slightly.

Hmmm, time for a Shit shower and shave.

Funny how a comma makes a difference, (unless it wasn't a good shower)

This is episode 1. They are up to episode 34 at the moment. I find it an excellent project to watch, both from the technical aspect, and the production.

Its looking better today.

Gearbox tunnel is gonski..... and the gearbox is in place and bolted up, well, what there is of it.
Its just a case and some bits, makes it easier to swing around and Shit.

The new engine mounts are on the motor ready for some cross member fabrication to take place.
The gearbox mount and mounting plate is on and also ready for a some X member fabrication.

Was a big day.... lots and lots of pissing around, but I have to say.... i'm liking my new Tuff Mounts.

Somewhere on here, someone asked about room in the foot wells of the car and some mention of how far back #6 plug was.
I've got some pics now that show some of these aspects a tad better.

As I said in an earlier post, the box is in position.
The floors do need a final trim, but you'll get the idea.

Anyway..... enjoy.

Pic 1. The laser dot tells me I have the driveline straight.

Pic 2. The engine is level.

Pic 3. Rough chop out of the floor. I used to racket straps to lift it high enough to bung a jack under it.

Pic 4. Its in..... yahoo. A final trim along the tape line will make for a nice edge to weld to.

Pic 5. Just a different angle.
