You going to seam weld the shell and run a chassis kit in this O'l girl Kev  ? .. Might have  to try and limit her hurting herself a bit when she does  the twist  riding the wild ponies ..
Zip tying the doors shut might not be a good look .

Chassis connector and a 6 point chrome moly roll cage will do it just fine.

Seam welding is for those rally wankers who just thrash cars through the scrub.  ;D

Ever tried it? it's a lot of fun. My poor old 70's datto just loved red line sucking huge amounts of super through the twin 45DCOE webers while dodging trees.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ahhh that  Raucus bellowing high / low growling through the carbs, of an engine at revs echoing through the forrest, The glint and flash in the distance through the trees, of a wild bucking beast bellowing and trailing a cloud of dust ..
Driving it straight Sideways Yumping the lumps, Holding it on the limits not daring  to snatch that next gear for fear of unloading  it into the scrub ..
190 klicks flat strap through the green trench , eyes as big as plates, Arms legs hands and feet moving in an automatic  blurr, One of the best workouts, even the toughest fittness  instructors would be impressed by  .. You know you are alive .

Awesome nav.........top motivation skills.

I'm old enough the remember the works ford teams coming here for the Alpine and southern cross rallies in the late 70s and early 80s.
To hear a BDA escort at full song is the stuff dreams are made of.
To see the eskys and dattos on 3 wheels on the bitumen stages outside Albury/Woodonga in the new housing estates.
Then the group G Dazdas..................oh times were good back then.

Anywho, I was a member of Ford Four car club for a number of years in the mid 90's. At the meetings the bitumen boys (circuit racers) would sit on one side on the auditorium and the dirt boys (Rally, autocross etc) on the other...................was a massive divide back then!! ;D

It does surprise me how few (global) rally drivers are from Australia - in the same way that the Finns had the ice to learn their magic, on Aussies have the dirt roads galore to work with.

I think it has more to do with coin and that the sponsors are european Ed.

We have had/have drivers (and navs) who would cut it with the best of the europeans. Cody Crocker and Simon Evans comes to mind 10 odd years ago.
Ross Dunkerton, Geoff Portman, George Fury and Colin Bond of the earlier rear wheel drive era.

Australia was/is just too small to facilitate a international rally team or fund a driver overseas.

I got this message earlier today.... made me pretty happy..... hope it fits.  ???

It's a brand new 2000hp rated Inland Empire Drive Line Services ally shaft. Best part of 2k to have made and shipped here.

It might be totally the wrong length, but if you can use it, it's yours.

Geez..... I hate it when I fukk up.

I've been chasing an old T400 GM trans for 2 weeks to use shortly in the engine/gearbox mock up.
The Caddy runs a T400, but is a one piece unit, I need a separate bellhousing unit.

So, even though I haven't spoken to the guy since the mid 90's, I rang Bob Grant Automatics to see if they had one.
Bob built my manualised C4 in the mighty Datto

Bob and I chatted for ages..... then he told me, they don't make one with a separate bellhousing.  :-[ OOOPPPS
So, got onto Craig Bennett from Torque Power, ordered a near $1,000 bellhousing for a Barra to a T400.

Bob Grant will machine an empty case up to suit. (They've done a few of them now.)
In around a week, i'll have a dummy box ready for a dummy fit, by the dummy building it.
I'm also going to do  a dummy fit, of the Ford 4 speed auto at the same time.
(It won't hold the power, but down the track, when i'm getting really old, if I want to de-tune the old Z and chuck a 4 speeder in it, I can.)

He reckons, the Torque Power housing are a nice bit of kit too.
It uses the standard Ford flexplate and starter motor.

One other I considered, used an aftermarket starter.... great if a starter Shits itself and ya need one quickly.
A starter for a Barra Falcon could be bought in a milk bar.

I made up and welded the modified strut bar locator yesterday for the left side..... looks pretty good.  :cup:
Day off today..... front and back shocks into Astrid's Statesman on Monday and then get started on the right side strut doodad.

Nice little win today.....

When I first had this thing on the go, the plan to just run it as a footbrake launch.
Keep it a bit doughy over the first part of the track, then plough the sucker home in the second half of the track.

BUT..... As F. S. Shane pointed out, some tracks, the drag challenge thing uses, are 1/8 mile strips.

The thing would be a slug over the 1/8th.

So, to make the little turd perform, we are using a transbraked T400 trans.
With a transbrake, it locks the gearbox in 1st and reverse at the same time.
You take ya foot off the brake and launch the car from a button on the steering wheel.
That means, bringing the revs up to around 5,500 on the rattle box, get some boost happening and then.... lets get the fukk outta Dodge.

In the 1st set up, 3:3 to 3:5 diff gears would be required to try and get it moving.

I can now go slightly higher in the gearing, which will drop the hwy revs just a tad more.
But the big plus, is the little turd should haul arse over the 1/8 mile now.
Who knows, it might even have a little wheel dangling going on during the launch now too.

Because, Shane will be doing the diff soon, I was lying awake last night at midnight thinking, where the fukk an I going to get some 3:25 diff gears.

I figured the donor car would have 3:0 gears at best, maybe even  the Shitty ol 2:78's.
Then I got to thinking, if this ute is rated at a 1 tonne payload...... just maybe.....  ???

Up on stands, cover off and fukkin BINGO...... 3:23 diff gears.... I haven't been this excited since i was a little girl.

I nearly have the second strut mount finished now too..... moving along nicely.
I might spend a few hours in the morning digging out some more of the pool, then hook into the Z car again.

I think I can feel the purchase of a Harrop Engineering truetrac centre coming up next week.

Haltech, which is an Aussie made unit, it the weapon of choice.

Thought it might have been, they would already have plenty of really good basemaps for the Barra too.

I now have both radius rod mounts made and installed.

You'll see a pic below of one of em partly finished.

So, with both struts in place, I need to make two adaptors, which I can't do until the engine is in, because I need final measurements.
I can't get the measurements, without the engine in....  ???

Threw together a pair of adaptors that should go close.
Once I have final numbers, i'm getting Esk Welding and Fabrication to make 'em. To be sure, to be sure.
Rang Bob Grant Autos to tell them they should have a bell housing on Monday.
Already here, the box is being machined to suit, you'll have it next week.
Rang Hoppers Stoppers, the custom front hubs are made and they were packaging up all my front brake Shit.
That should all be here during next week.
I'm borrowing some rims and tyres tomorrow in readiness to measure the offset I need for the front rims.
I picked up my free rear venetians on Thursday.... told Garney I was happy to pay for them.... wouldn't hear of it.
They're a bit crusty looking, but in good nick...... will look great once they are powder coated.
Did a test fit of a sunvisor  I bought, i'm pretty sure, its come off this car.
All the holes in the A pillar lined up perfect.
And.... the visor has a pretty cool profile line to the roof too.

Trying to get the engine out of the ute, what a turd of a thing these Fords are..... >:(
Got sick of trying to work over the radiator support panel..... problem solved.
Gunna rip a day off tomorrow, so i'll haul the engine on Monday or Tuesday.

Been a big week, little to show for it yet, but moving forward.

Maori Mustang is built by Jeepers....  ;D

Nah, talking about this late model Shit Geoff.
Just so flimsy in its build, poorly constructed and for a lot of it, really badly designed from a maintenance and throw away parts aspect.

And before all the Holden owners get sore hands from running around giving each other high fives.
I think what Holden here in Oz builds is just as bad.

I loath the fact, we have a 2001 Statesman.
It does however, make a semi comfortable, air conditioned parts chaser on the odd time I use it as such.

Yeah, I knew all that. While I understand the sentiment, the later stuff is so much better to drive it ain't funny.
People can get very gushy when talking about the older stuff (me included), but it really is crap to drive....even GT's & the like.
Was just having a go.... ;D ;D

Ahh Cadillac. Luxury on wheels, Like sinking  into a  plush lounge chair floating on a solid cloud, listening to the sweet muffled purr of a V8, watching the scenery cruise by at  80 Mph ..  8) 8)
You going to make the top radiator support removable Kev, might make getting the Barra lump in and out a bit easier .
