As bushfires burn across Australia, we look back to 1961.

This ABC News report shows how communities around Dwellingup in Western Australia fought and survived bushfires.

There are many things that have changed, but also many things that remain the same - including the community spirit to help those in need.

Climate change in 1961, sure, it did exist back then as it has done throughout the lifecycle of the earth. The major problem for the people of Dwellingup was the same as those affected this season, the wind. Lots of bushfires are contained within a couple of days of their origin. The wind creates the MEGA fires seen in Australia, and probably other nations who suffer from these events.
We've waited 45 years to do this. Now our life will be complete!!
