I like to watch the show on channel 31 forged in fire, I suppose because I would like to make myself a forge and get into a bit of blacksmithery. Reason one is to try and keep a bit of our heritage alive and reason two is to find a way to work from home in these tough times, so it interests me to see just what people are capable of, and it inspires me to giddy up and make it happen.
Thing is, the show before it is something called "the joy of painting" and I have been unfortunate to have watched it until my fav show starts. Now really.....what the heck where these programers thinking? If you suffer from insomnia I heartily recommend it. Talk about the bottom of the barrel. I reakon they found the bottom and kept digging.
Any who....if anybody out there know where I can score an anvil, I  will be forever in your debt.

It was 73 when I was there & it was starting to slow down then. I worked with a German guy on one of the big hammers making large collars. No idea what they were for.

In the 80s (I think) went  to the Bendigo munitions factory & they were forging the barrels for the hammel guns. The hammer was used as a press. There was a T bar welded to the blank. They were heated in long gas furnaces. It was raised by crane  & 6 men on the T bar to guide it across the press. Impressive to watch. May have been Ballarat memory is a bit sketchy, went there to pick up a 6 inch thick block of steel to make a pile driver helmet.

They also have tours of the Ipswich Railway Museum workshops where you can see some of the gear being used https://theworkshops.qm.qld.gov.au/Events+and+Exhibitions/Exhibitions/Permanent/Museum+Heritage+Tour

Unfortunately, in these days of plastic & throw-away, there's just not much demand for heavy metal work :'(

Waiting this morning at 6.00am for the ferry here(Lawrence) to head to my first job.
3, yep three Jayco motor homes, all with Vic plates.
The Lawrence Tavern has closed it's camp area. I made some enquiries as to why the signs were up saying it was closed.
I was told the reason was because these motor homes were wanting to camp there.
They were asked to show where they had come from, they refused.

Mate of mine is in Yamba with his Vic plated wobbly box atm, on a river front site.
Staying till last week in September.
Has had the same site for 18 odd years.
He spent 3 weeks in NSW before hitting town.
Not one angry word in his trip so far, he said everyone has been most welcoming.

Being there for as long as they have, they'd be a local. People would be mindful of that.
When locals don't recognize tbe vehicle or people, that when eyebrows get raised.
Local mechanic(Maclean) who does Blue Slips, has been overwhelmed with Vic plated vehicles wanting to be registered in NSW.

Brooms head rd, the amount of Vic plated vehicles heading towards Brooms Head is just mind blowing.

Now, it's not just because of Covid boarder lock downs that I/we have noticed the number plates, we have usually throughout the year seen them, atm there are way more than usual.

How many are actually NSW residents but have their vehicles registered in Vic because it's cheaper, but are now changing so they don't get mistaken for a Mexican?

One of my best mates moved from Vic to NSW many years ago, but kept his vehicles registered in Vic for quite a few years before he eventually got around to changing his nominated address.

Admittedly they were all vehicles he rarely used - his first car (a Valiant he bought off his dad), a Vauxhall (which was his Dads first car), a stock truck which didn't get used again after he carted his dairy herd up, and an EA variant LTD (that he never drove because he was to busy working) ...........Most journeys done in his farm ute which was NSW rego.

In Vic, you just pay the rego each year, no-one needs to sight the vehicle.

Technically speaking in Vic once the car is no longer temporarily in Vic it must be registered in Vic.  No 90 days etc.

Hmmm,
We really need to revise the whole vehicle-rego-taxes-licence-location palava that now is over 100 years old, and really no longer fit for purpose.
