wakychapmans

so I searched and found a bunch of older threads on this topic.

I need to get *some* tracks for our Madigan Line crossing in July.

my options at this stage are:

Maxtrax Mk II for $279 a pair (from Tentworld) - https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/maxtrax-mkii-recovery-tracks
(so that's $558 for 2 x pairs)

or... and I found these by accident...

The Tred Pro "Factory Seconds" for $124 each (direct from Treds) - https://www.tred4x4.com.au/collections/all/products/tred-pro-factory-second-singles
($498 for 4 units)

Yes... I know, I'm really comparing apples to oranges here.

My head says stick with the better known brand in Maxtrax and just get some of the aftermarket replacement teeth for when (if) they're needed... https://www.kaon.com.au/store/p19/Maxtrax_Replacement_Teeth_Repair_Kit_-_4_replacement_studs%3B_Fix_your_Maxtrax.html

Ronny Dahl did a review of the two recently might be worth a look, but if you do you
will be spending more money

I have only had maxtracks, but they have been faultless in both mud and sand. I have mainly used them for other people, but they have had a fair bit of use.
One thing I ask is that people try not to spin wheels, but more idle out. No nibs have been worn or snapped off so far. I have seen other people's with similar and less age wit a few nibs missing. It seems to be mainly related to wheel spin
Just my opinion

ok... decision made...

Maxtrax it is.

2 x pairs of the std ones. And a pack of the replacement teeth for repair down the track.

If I had the budget I would go for the Maxtrax Extreme. But I need $$$ for fuel and food for the trip.

WE have used TREDs with our Canter 4x4's and never had a problem with them cracking, mainly in sand where they are supported underneath. Neither will last if you use them for bridging. Even using them in wheel tracks where they are only supported along the sides neither will last.

Dan.

I am entitled to express my opinion, you are entitled to express yours.

But as you did not express your opinion, and chose instead to challenge mine, I believe the convention is that the onus is now upon you to disprove mine, not for me to prove anything.

Back to you champ.

As Ronny clearly stated in the video and many other of his videos when he tests things, they are his opinion and what he has observed.  He states the faults as well.  Not the same as many paid advertising

I think the MaxTrax will stack down nicer on the roof. You can also get locking pins for them, which I will get next time as some mongrel just pinched mine.

I think both will do the job, in real world use you will struggle to tell them apart, both are fit for purpose.

I have had 4 of the cheapy copies for a few years, cost me $220 delivered. So far they have been great and got me and mates out of being bogged. Compared to the name brand these one are clearly not as sturdy or heavy duty, in fact the 4 of mine are lucky to weigh as much as 2 of my mates Maxtrax! But used sensibly they have so far done the job. Wouldn't use them as a bridge though....

For your intended usage there is likely to be no noticeable difference, If you were going serious 4wding regularly (say 10 times a year) then a more detailed comparison might be more valid.

I decided to save some $$$ and went the Xbulls from eBay and the once I have needed them in the last 2-3 years they did what they were supposed to do, if you aren't doing the kind of 4wding that see's you regularly getting stuck, then I think it's unlikely you are going to get any benefit from your additional spend. In this situation I think 2 pairs of the Xbulls for half the price of 1 pair of Maxtraxs is also going to be better at getting you out as well as saving you $$$.

Being slightly more rigid you can use them as a leveling ramps for your camper as well.

That's some interesting mental gymnastics you've performed there. You made the claim that it was paid advertising, and Macca asked if you were sure. He hasn't made a claim, he's questioned YOUR claim. It is absolutely your responsibility to back up your assertion.

So why start one in the first place?  You had the choice not to challenge my opinion but you chose to.

Gees, you lot are pretty sensitive.  This is social media, everybody can have an opinion, sheez, settle petals.
