Only done 13,000km in a year?
Sounds like perfect use for an EV.

It works perfect for us.
It's my wife's car, she drives to and from the shops, to and from her work 6 times a week.
It is being charged by our solar panels when we have a surplus.

Wonder how those with EV's are copeing without electricity around SE QLD atm?
Some 270 000 homes without power.

Hi,
Probably the same as ICE vehicles unable to get fuel from the electrical bowser, unless they have a workaround.

Coping quite well by all accounts.
No where to go, nothing is open, so don't need to drive anywhere.
The cars have vehicle to load capability and more battery capacity than you need, so many are using the car as a silent substitute for a generator and running essential appliances from the car.

That's all we can ask, That you guys are doing well.
Actually, when I had posted, a I know, whi has just bought an EV 4x4, he was using his EV 4x4 to power his house fridge, and essential electrical things.
Well there ya go.

Just got a message that the missus Corolla Cross hybrid has arrived after a year on order and get ready to pay the balance of the RRP. She only does around 12k a year so like the 4 year old KIA under 50k it will go then too for whatever suits at the time. With the diesel fourby for towing and playing I'm not averse to an EV that would do fine as an urban shopping trolley but like many new car buyers I don't want some johnny come lately Chinese spy car with no backup-
https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/other/toyota-just-proved-that-electric-vehicles-aren-t-going-anywhere/ar-AA1ARwvZ

Besides there's always the promise of the 1000km range 10 minute refuel solid state yada yada battery just around the corner and when a carmaker like Toyota put one out I might be interested.

It was all tongue in cheek as I didn't think he'd last long with that stance and my sage advice for public officials nowadays is never come between self righteous climate changers and their slushfunding.

In that regard electrification will require a lot more reliable power and while a lot of senors and senoritas were lauding 9 hours running completely on wind and solar a week later it was oops as the lights went out for similar time. I see they also got to ponder demand for copper milling around the railway station as some villains appreciating the rising price just knocked off some that runs their electric trains.

Well with the recent auction of red ink goodies for the grandchildren to contemplate it's no nukes and full steam ahead with the Chinese coal fired solar panels windmills and batteries until the Future Made in Australia of course  :cup:

It's lengthy but if you want to hear the most comprehensive explanation of the fantasy of net zero electrical grid and why our current Govt and Minister Bowen will fail here it is-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPydWl5Djxs
and yes it's true at the same time as UK is subsidising solar panels they're also subsidising research into blocking the sun with sky seeding  ???

The economic pain of what UK Labour and Milliband are doing on top of the previous metoo Conservative Govts has spawned UK Reform and that's the same argument the Liberal and National Parties in Australia are grappling with at present. I suspect Australian politics is about to split into climate realists and net zero fantasists the same way so we live in interesting times.

So, I own a diesel 4wd, a heavy one, I pay a weight tax.
This tax is apparently for the damage my vehicle causes to the road network.
Some EV's weigh as much, if not more but pay no weight tax.

Hi,
The whole system needs re-evaluating for equity, efficiency and purpose.
Vehicles parked on private land should not incur the same daily cost as one parked roadside for a start.

They're all banking on solid state battery tech to overcome the hassles and inconvenience of public charging but as usual with engineering there are those pesky tradeoffs-
https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/electric-car-disaster-why-the-much-hyped-solid-state-battery-might-not-cure-all-electric

"While solid-state batteries indeed have wider safety boundaries than liquid batteries, once those boundaries are breached, the consequences can be more severe than with liquid batteries,"

It's much harder and more costly than we thought.

Hi,  I gather the solid state batteries are nearly like big very scary capacitors.
I don't envy first responders approaching a severely impacted EV.
