The pity of the day is that DJR team had to cheat , but what else would you expect from Penske , if ya cant buy it win at any cost .

So was I wrong with this statement , breaking news at todays race in Sandown - Scott has been stripped of his qualifying time and  starting position at Bathurst due to his qualifying engine was not in the legal specs .

I wonder if the $100,000 held by supercars in suspension has now been taken from DJRTP

IMO ..   The " win " should have been also stripped and  DJRTP excluded from the race results too ...
The race declared basicaly a non event [ cant think of the right terminolgy ] and all teams that were on lead lap given an equal  percentage  points share ..

Certainly leaves a sour taste for McLaughlin fans (which I am).

What should have happened ????? I guess it's up to the officials to make that call ?

Did they cheat ? I think thats a long bow to draw.
The technical report states that there was no evidence of that, and the engine as tested by scrutineers was within the limits of power. The report says DJRTP sought and were granted permission to replace the engine prior to the race because water was present in the oil after qualifying. The dyno testing of the seized engine by supercars technical team was suspended after 2 runs due to water vapour being present in the oil. the engine was disassembled and inspected, and the inlet valve lifters on 5 of the 8 cylinders were found to be above the 0.710" limit (highest was 0.7135"). DJRTP have not contested the results of the inspection, and the stewards accepted the supplied evidence that the engine was within spec as delivered from the builder prior to the race. Full stewards report is here - https://www.supercars.com/news/championship/full-decision-djrtp-bathurst-engine-case/

Would Bathurst have had a different outcome if the penalty was imposed prior to the race? no doubt it would, but was it a result af an actual and deliberate attempt to gain an advantage? I think thats a big call to make.

As a McLaughlin fan, my only hope is that he doesn't bugger off to Nascar, and comes back next year to win both Bathurst and the supercars championship without any of these question marks and cynics conspiracy theories to cloud things.

This season has had some cloudy things over it.  Ultimately while some Teams have constantly been pushing the envelope the biggest one caught out has been Supercars themselves.  Lets hope they can get everything sorted onto an even field for next season.
Cheers

So supercars should go back through the books and for every race that Scott and DJRTP raced with this engine , the result and points should be stripped .

I have got a puzzle to solve, hope you can help:

How can two drivers who have been disqualified from qualifying at Bathurst win the race from the front row of the grid?

The penalty applies today with Car 17 starting in last position.

In any other sport the win would have been stripped .

I feel that they should be stripped of the Bathurst win, but it is a shame to have such a great driver tarnished by a team that appears to play by their own rules.

How do you strip a blokes win, the engine was used for qualifying, removed, replaced for the race, with permission granted by Supercars.
Totally different engine which would also have been scrutineered after the win and passed inspection.

Well for one he was disqualified from qualifying so therefore once again this would have affected the race.

Yes, disqualified from qualifying for the current race, not Bathurst. Can’t use the Tardis to go back in time.

All good. Here’s hoping the officials get their act together for next year, as this year has been nothing but a shambles.

It's nice to finally see a blue team employing red tactics.
Even better to see the Red supporters going blue in the face over it.... ;D ;D

The question asked Geoff , has yet to be answered .

If one is disqualified from qualifying , how can one start and win the race ?

Nothing to do with either red or blue , ford or holden .

They were only disqualified from qualifying.   NOT disqualified from racing.   As the 'offence' was not detected until after Bathurst and after the Gold Coast, the 'Penalty' was applied to Sandown and Car 17 had to start at the back of the pack.

Don't ask me duggie. I don't make, interpret, or enforce, the rules. My opinion on the matter is worth zero.
It's difficult to see the logic in many of the decisions.....but the red teams are rarely on the wrong end of them....

The category is irrelevant. The sport has long since gone from it. It's just entertainment now.
It's all about money and sponsors. No need to get too bothered about it.
