after dad (74) had a heart attack and stroke (from the angiogram) in may last year, it's been on the cards for him and mum (72) to finally sell the cane farm and move into town...
he and his family have been on the property for over 100 years, so a big thing...
they found a place (lowset, rather than the split level they were in), in the suburb that they both like, which was actually a street over from where mum grew up...
after selling some farm blocks, they bought the place in town and we have spent the last four months or so, getting things done (new paint, new electrics all the way through, new awnings, etc)... still stuff to do on the outside, but done on the inside...
so, yesterday, finally moved them in (in the rain, which incidentally is good sign for your finances, according to some asian cultures)... still a heap of mum's stuff at the old place (she's a self-confessed hoarder and sentimental softie), but they are in.
a minute from the hospital and just about everything else they need, rather than a 30 minute trip one way... closer to the grandkids, as well...
it's been a long, emotional slog, with still some stuff to go with the farm, but this was a big hurdle to get over...
