We get betting ads here in WA during footy telecasts. Usually promoted by former AFL "stars" (so called lunch box legends), Nathan Brown or Bill Brownless.

I just, mentally, switch off or feel sorry for them.

It's just a legitimate way of drug dealing. Poor b*stards are such parasites they cannot see the forest for the trees.

It's all based around the keno numbers isn't it?
Gambling might be a scourge on society, but it's a big cash cow for govt.
Plus the racing industry (horses & dogs) is one of Australia's largest employer groups directly & indirectly

slipped up to Woolies early this morning.

Its a 20 minute drive through farm land for me.
Just before 8am, in the rain, and he's the Asian workers hand pulling veggies.
Keep in mind, they don't grow 'em in dry dirt, so the conditions are testing.
The temp wasn't high either, but man, they were into it.
The farmer, tractors, packing crates, everything there to get the job done.
Based on where they were, they'd be at it a while too.

Then I got to thinking, about all the folks on Centerlink, who could, but won't work.

Then at Woolies, doing my self serve thing, when the biggest walrus of a woman uses the check out next to me.
She stunk of BO..... that rank, dirty filthy, I've not bathed since 1973 smell.

With her, are her Fukk trophies, 1 girl and 3 boys.
All I could think was, the old man must be too damn lazy to have a pull once in a while.

Not one pair of shoes between them.
She's bellowing at the kids to put Shit back on the shelves.

All I could think, was at least one of the boys will end up in jail.
The girl will have a belly full of arms and legs before 16.
I wouldn't rule out a brother being the father either.

Just a pack of no hopers bumbling through life on Centrelink. (I bet i'm not wrong either)

Heading back home, the Asians were plugging away getting their work done...... good on 'em.

I'll never understand the world I don't think?

Wow, all that insight from a couple of minutes in the checkout.

You have no idea what that family might be going through...

Easier to sit back and judge, with little basis in actual fact, I guess.

Plus the racing industry (horses & dogs) is one of Australia's largest employer groups directly & indirectly

I’m going to dispute that one.
Taken directly from official racing industry publications;
“Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that in 2016 the industry included 3,459 horse farms and 1,908 racing businesses collectively employing 13,061 people.”

Compare that to the 600,000 people employed in tourism, or the 238,000 people employed in mining, the racing industry is minuscule.
In fact it doesn’t even come close to the 21,000 people employed by the surfing industry in Australia.

I do totally agree on the government revenue comment though.
Each year Australians lose over 3.2 Billion dollars just gambling on pokies and in casinos.
If you include lotto and scratchies that number goes up to over 8.6 Billion.
The gov takes a nice cut of those loses.

After dealing with the general public for the best part of 40 years, I find its quite reasonable to be able to read peoples behaviour and how they present to form a fairly accurate  opinion of what your seeing / going to deal with  ..
Ohh and believe me, on the hygene side of things, Some are that bad you try and not breath around them.

It would be interesting to know what sort of money the Asian workers were earning though. There are a lot of immigrant workers being payed below award wages, here working illegally and being exploited because they know if they get dobbed in they'll be deported.

A "dole bludger" (and yes I agree there are plenty of those) isn't going to take a job that pays less than Centrelink does, and a farmer isn't going to employ someone at a higher rate, if he can pay immigrant workers a lot less to do the same work.

Not saying that is always the case, but it does happen.

Not saying that is always the case, but it does happen.

There's a few bits in the background for some of the picking work:
1) You generally only get it if you're living in the hostel or share house with the connection to the company - some farm operations have now put in dongas for the staff to live. That can be upto $300/week quite easily
2) You need to be willing to move somewhere else when that seasonal work has finished. Not easy if you have kids etc - it costs money to move, and disrupting school isn't ideal
3) Some work is piece work, some is hourly work
4) They expect a season to be completed (6 weeks +)

Those bits in the background make it hard for Aussies to get a look in; there are also stories of them underestimating the amount of work that is needed in the conditions they are expected to work in - but on the flip side, the conditions (normally a glasshouse) gives temps and humidity that some international workers are happy in.

I might be wrong in my assumption of what I believe were no-hoppers, but I don't think so.
I've dealt with the general public for a long time, you get good at working out who's who in the zoo.

Outside, Mum was puffing away, soap is cheaper the smokes.

As for the Asian workers, well, mostly Asians, but I guess a bit like the United Nations in real life.
I thought to myself, the same thing, i hoped they are getting a decent wage.

Its friggin hard work, I would need to be on the bones of my arse to do it, if i'm honest with myself.
But hey, when bills need to be paid, you do what you have to.

Some people work for what they want/have.
Others just want it on a hand out.

In my opinion only, yesterday was a good example of both.

The frat house was in full swing again last night, finishing their party as the sun came up...

The cops had a full dance card with a few deaths on the roads, which I get, but I draw the line at people pissing in my front garden, and throwing their empties all over my front yard.

We've decided we're going to bury these pricks going via council methods, or neighbour class action.  Farking over it...

At this time of year, the turtles are on the move around zlawrence.
How disappointing and sickening is it see soo many turtles atm that have been run over.
Most are not in the line of the wheel tracks
Driving back from Grafton to Lawrence last Thursday evening I counted 6 dead turtles on the road, not one was on the wheel track in that lane.

What sick mind does this?

We often stop if we can and move them to the side of the road near us so they don't get squashed.

Always sad when you see them or blue tongues squashed.

No thanks, I got into trouble last week for a personal opinion of a person, but thanks for the offer.

Just to add to that a tad, my opinion yesterday, was based on what I saw, what I could smell and what I could hear said to the kids.

So, if ya want an opinion of yourself from me without that consideration, is plain stupid.

There ya go.... ya got one.  :cup:
