Jon,

Rates is a separate issue.  We just finished a 25% rate increase over four years.

No kerb and gutter, no sealed road, no water, no sewerage, no mail, no nothing and donate just under $2500 to Council for the privilege.

Cheers

Just saw your mayor on the idoit box.
Christ, all smiles, assuring all the ratepayers 'will not ' be out of pocket.

Problem with elected representives from all levels of governments,
They can promise the earth, come the next election and they are gone, but never held accountable.
Our previous mayor & GM have shafted us, yet they walk free, the GM was given a bonus for great service, backed by the then mayor, WTF.

At lest you guys haven't been forced to alamagamate with a basket case of a council and then have that administration run the new council into the ground.

Al, someone, somewhere is making alot of money.
The problem with modern society is we are too comfortable and lazy as a society to get off our collective asses and do something about it, the fat cats know it, and do what ever they want.

Thankfully we have some Community members with memories.  Our former State Local Member is writing to powers that be requesting Administrators be put in place of our Council.  Interesting times ahead.

We've been calling for an Administrator to be appointed for 5 old yesrs.

I recently sat in a meeting with a senior planner and manager from our councils roads department. Our council has been under administration for about 6 months now and I asked the manager how that was effecting things. He was very cautious in his answer, but the gist of it was that decision making was now based on what would be the best outcome rather than what will gain the most votes  ;)

I got the impression that things were running a lot smoother without elected members getting in the way.

We have had Administration at council meetings exclude councilors from hearing information that they then vote on.
Our Mayor is an accountant, surely he would see information that wasn't right, yet he approves/votes for it.
It's a bloody mess.

Many years back (late 70s) Gold Coast Council were sacked & replaced by an Administrator :cup: ;D

I was working there when the Admin period was declared finished, so fresh elections were held, & new Councillors returned :'(

Over the space of that one weekend, staff morale fell through the floor at the prospect of our "leaders" ::) returning :'(

Their latest brain-snap this week is thinking that people having vans, boats & trailers parked on the street outside their property are making the city look untidy & taking up too much space, so they're talking about bringing in a time limit that you can be parked on the street - 1 hour :o

Only under limited cases... the rules seem reasonable to me, particularly the one that says you can’t park in front of someone else’s house for more than 28 days.

Your council also has financially illiterate accountants running the show.

Bloody oath.
It's incompetence at it's best.
Council sold land for an IGA development which eas the main carpark that served the CBD.
Now ratepayers have paid to have that carpark's surface hot mixed and reconfigured.
$290 000.
Explanation, ''council was planning on resurfacing it anyway'
What BS?
This Development has caused a financial lose to many businesses in our small town, yet there are some thst believe it will create jobs, it has cost jobs.

William Owen Jones (Div 2) is actually pretty good to follow if you are on FB, I am happy to say that I think he is a very good Councillor, he quite often cuts through some of the crap that gets incorrectly reported or hyped in the media and regularly responds the questions posed to him there, no matter how dumb some of them are and how happy some people are to espouse their ill-informed opinions. He has far more patience with them that I think I would in his situation. They are not all bad and I am happy I have a decent one.

Seems like the entitlement in some is very strong.
Or maybe they are just effin special.

Cruising thru the road works at the Georgina river on the Plenty on Thursday.
Coming the other way, doing more like 100 than 60 were 2 4wd with trailers.
Had time to recognize a jeep and a trak trailer the other was more of a dusty blur.
Plates were white with blue letters. Small blue letters.
Now I have nothing against victorians.
They must have been late for a date in Winton.

In Tobermorey we were told they came in, raised the dust and left without stopping.

Next day in Jervois they were the main subject.

So there you go fellas. You're the talk of the Plenty.

You're effin special.

Coming back home along Waterfall Way today; got overtaken between Ebor and Wollomomboi by a VIC plated Holden Epicfailure. OK, we look slow (camper trailer and 4x4) but we do know the road... and therefore, I will do 100 when I can...

Got past Hillgrove turn off and got flashed by a QLD Santa Fe - did a double take, as it was identical to a mate's car... slowed down as it was windy as and there would be the potential of trees down. Over the next rise, what do we see.... yep, NSW HWP's Chrysler SRT8 with it's Christmas lights on and the aforementioned Holden... Slight smug smile as we went past at 40km/h....

Our local Council being the cluster f%$# they are with the Mayor having a casting vote to vote for a Cultural and Civic Space building to house Library, Art Gallery, Museum, Cafe, Civic area, Council Administration and Council Chambers along with other facilities at an uncosted figure of $76.5m, expected to blow out to easily $96m, to be built in the already chocked CBD.
This just came up in my feed.

I feel your pain.  Did some 'work' yesterday and could feel the sij becoming inflamed and yeah felt it last night and today.  Easing down but I have to finish what I was doing yesterday before the end of the week.  Could be fun.
