Schools trying to make more t$$

Uniforms....
Went to buy daughter a jumper at school this morning $110 for a plan blue jumper.. Same one is available at Big W for $18.00 - but apparently they arent allowed to wear the Big W one or they get detention!!!!!!!  Same everything!

I know my kid's school has a dedicated "pre-loved uniforms" facebook page (done by parents, not the school) were people sell good used clothes, might be an option.

One of the reasons for having school uniforms is that it's an equalizer for the kids, doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, you're all wearing the same thing. By making them unaffordable and forcing people to improvise they're pretty much completely undermining that idea.

Why?
Why cant the kids wear the $18 one? then get a $2.00 patch sewn on? think someone else needs the reality check.
Schools should worry about educating and preparing kids for life, not a ****in jumper or 'thats the wrong shade of blue on your socks' - detention..

Agree with you about the uniforms. They can get a tad pricey. My kid went to a private school that ran a shop with all the second hand stuff for a good price.
My comment was about the P&C finances and school finances in general.
Cheers, John.

At my daughter's first netball game. Have to sit here in silence. Words of encouragement or advice is  forbidden. What a crock. Apparently if you yell out you get a warning after the game.

Imagine if the footy was like that

Similar at our school, the uniform shop also sells 2nd hand uniforms on behalf of parents for a commission (we take a few bucks per garment), any of this stock that surplus is donated to the schools chaplaincy program to assist disadvantaged families.................so there are plenty of options for parents to be able to comply with the uniform guidelines.

I think it is great that uniforms are resold second hand - much better than seeing them thrown in the trash. But for some people, not being able to afford new school clothes for their kids could feel like a real kick in the guts.... just another difference between the haves and the have nots.

Roos are bad up our way at the moment. Wife got one the other morning and it popped off the front bumper and left a skid Mark down the side of the car. Easily fixed which was good.

Neighbour hit one early this morning at Lysterfield. Caved in the whole front bumper. Hopefully we get some rain soon and they head away from the roads.

Yeah, it's pretty crappy... I've been banned from junior footy from before I had kids for telling old mate to pull his head when I got told off for encouraging my mates son.

Then, today, my kids were in their under 6 nippers comp, my daughter got a ribbon in 4/5 events, and my son started having a melt down because he didn't get a ribbon.  Another parent got up me for telling my son to toughen up and try harder is he wanted the reward, and that in life you come first, or you're the first loser if you come second...

Kids are being wrapped in way too much cotton wool these days

Bloody "bait advertising" Aldi electric bike, front page of brochure for $799, good review etc.,   only problem, Aldi only issued 2 bikes to every store. Not happy Jan  >:( >:( >:(

Just saw 4 at my local Aldi, The Gold Coast is probably a bit far though I am guessing.

All good Troopy, no offense taken at all. The first time I met bird, "lost" as he was called then, was at the Mansfield pub, walked in and there was about ten swaggers i had never met before sitting at a table.  If you had asked me then which one was bird he would have been the last I would have picked, luckily he stood up and put he hand out and said you must be Macca. The guy I was with (mongoose on here) said, Shit I am going up the VHC with a dozen blokes I met on the internet being led by a guy called lost

Bloody Bunnings FFS

I needed some heat shrink solder splices, Bunnings had 3 sizes (2, 4, & 6mm) The 4mm were $4.50 a packet, but the 2 & 6mm were $11 a packet (same qty in each packet). I queried it with flossy girl in the green apron, she zapped them and said that was correct. I questioned if it seemed odd and she just shrugged her shoulders and said "nuthin I can do about it".

Whipped out the phone and quickly googled Jaycar - exact same item $4.95. Flossy girl insisted - nothin I can do about it?

Thankfully the lady on the front counter was a little more understanding and price matched without question, but geeze, twice the bloody price ?

Their steel prices are also absurd.  What pisses me off the most though is that I specifically ring up and enquire about an item to be told yes...its here.  Get there and no bloody item!  Has happened 3 times now in the last couple of months.  Their website also is often wrong.  Like a bloody lottery to get an item now... >:D

Both my kids go to private school and if it’s in their size at the uniform shop they are wearing it. We have no issue with it and we can buy new if we want. The same people thinking that their kids need new clothes are driving flash leased cars they can’t afford to impress people they don’t know. New gear and flash cars means you spend a lot of money, not have a lot of money. People have very skewed views of what a ‘have’ looks like. Last job I did for a ‘have’ admits to being worth $260m and drives an Amarok.
