You are right. Townsville is just as bad a the moment -  we have 12-15yo indigenous brats stealing cars and ramming police cars. If they crash, they leave their injured mates in the car and run. Usually off their face from chroming.
You cannot leave your doors unlocked even if you are home. Work colleague a while back had his keys & wallet stolen of the kitchen bench while he watched TV a few metres away.
One neighbour in her eighties had a stranger come to the door recently waving a bit of wood and demand that she let him in.
The drug dealer two doors down from us has been raided numerous times but not jailed. A few weeks ago, a disgruntled acquaintance of his was yelling in the street at him and throwing rocks through his win
His mate over the road has been jailed previously on drugs & weapons charges. Last night there was an ambulance & three police cars at that place. Haven't heard what happened yet.

UK bloke riding around the world clocking up 11,000kms through Europe and Asia had his bike stolen.....where? ....in Townsville of course.

Last September we drove through from Toowoomba to Sunshine Coast via Esk & Kilcoy. Coming into the Sunshine Coast from the south west there are some really nice spots in that area.

Once the last kid finishes school.....might be time for a tree change. I am a bit over Townsville.
Every town in Australia with a high indigenous population has this problem, Look at towns like Taree, Kempsey, Amidale, Dubbo,Brewarrina just to name a few

Never mind that. A scumbag assaults and kills a young woman after getting off a tram. They catch him and now their worried about what could happen to him if he is incarcerated. Why, because of his age and his ethnic origin. I say put him in the worst place they can find and let the big boys sort him out. If he doesn't come back out all the better for us. Pitty that will  never happen, all the do-gooder soft c***s and judges will make sure it can't happen to him.

After over 20 years with one insurer, having all our policies (4 x cars comprehensive, 4 x cars comprehensive, 2 x trailers, house, contents, premium roadside, etc...) we have changed to RACT and saved a bundle. RACT didn't even have any stupid new member deal.

Previous insurer was befuddled when we told them they were loosing out business.

Well it seems Innisfail's controversially named "The Battered Wife" fish & chip shop is set to close.

The owner is a former policewoman who named it to raise awareness of domestic violence.
It seems not everyone appreciated the name.

Funny how a so-called 'anti-abuse' organisation can threaten to throw bricks through a business window over a name. Also accused her of child exploitation. Sounds like they specialise in abuse and bullying to me ???
Why wasn't that cowardly organisation named in the article I wonder?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-22/battered-wife-fish-chip-shop-owner-says-forced-to-sell/10737816
You can’t tell me she didn’t pick the name in the hope of getting some publicity. It was a stupid name to begin with.

Seems the shop owner will be charged for detaining the thief.

Same thing happened on the GC a while back https://au.news.yahoo.com/shop-owner-charged-allegedly-punching-13yo-ice-cream-thief-131717680.html

In the ed though, the shop keeper was let off & the little bitch was charged! ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, pretty sad if he was let off eh. Imagine the hew and outcry if someone off here's kid pinched an ice cream or a coke and got the crap belted out of them like that. Or even as adults, when they taste test a couple of grapes in the fruit and veg section, as I have seen people do in the local Coles.

I reckon some parents would be up in arms if their kids just got yelled at for doing something similar.

I recognise her..😀
When one of her compatriots sent our recent premium to us, lo and behold it had gone up again. $300 this year and no claim in excess of ten years. Received the obligatory call and they rdeduced the premium once again. WTF. No use changing this year. Blah blah blah..

Our previous guys had our house in a bushfire zone and would not reconsider. New insurer said "Yeah 15 years ago that would have been bushfire zone but not now"
Previous guys were not reducing the premiums under any circumstances.

our house insurance company recently added us into a flood zone and were jacking up our premiums hugely due to that (think it was an $800 increase)...it never flooded at our place in 1974 or 2010 / 2011 when half of Brisbane was under water, if we get flooded most of Brisbane will be under water...strangely enough we changed insurers.

Our mob tried that after 2011. During my phone call to one of their advisers, I asked whether her office was in a high rise in Brissie. When she replied in the affirmative, I then asked at which level, to which the reply was 24th.
I then advised her that if we ever flooded and she was at work, then she would drown at her desk. Surprisingly, they accepted my explanation.

same to a bloke in our club increasing by $1500!

Whats funnier is that his rental at Chelsea is on Port Phillip Bay - if his place floods, 3/4 of the country is ****ed

Same here. Our council added us to a flood zone. When’s it ever flooded here? Never

My mate who works at the council justified it and said “well we plan for the 100 year flood which is due soon.” Right

Australian of The Year

What BS, two blokes that did a one of act overseas receive the Australian of The Year award.

Absolute nothings in Australian terms compared to the other 7 nominees.

yep.... what they did was awesome, but several other nominees were more deserving of the win IMO. Gotta say though,  I rarely ever agree with who the final winner of Australian of the year is most times, they always seem to choose a one off thing or someone who has only been doing whatever for about a year at most, or a sports person of some description. It feels like rarely does someone that has dedicated themselves for an extended period to a worthy cause, win the big gong....it's more  like a sports person doing a bit of community work on the side, or someone made big in the news (ie: this years winner or Rosie Batty for example) has more of a chance of winning then them.

Just thinking about it - it will sell papers with the controversy - AND get people talking about an award nobody gives 1/2 a **** about .. see its working

oh and agree with Rummy... rarely think the winner deserves it, although I think all the behind th scene things Rose Batty does is worth while for other families who have their kids murdered by spouse.

yes I agree, she does some great work like all the other nominees do (they are much better people then myself)...but I believe that year there were much more deserving winners of the big gong then her.

Another woman judge.... another woeful sentence

FOUR years? Yet the Ballarat bus driver got 5 yrs...

Quote
The County Court Judge sentenced an 18-year-old man, who was 17 at the time of the crime, to a minimum four years in jail, with a maximum of six.

Keith Stevens was knocked off his motorcycle when the teenager, driving a stolen BMW with three friends, failed to give way at an intersection in a residential street in Mitcham on November 8, 2017.

Instead of stopping, the teen accelerated, trapping Mr Stevens and his bike under the BMW.

Mr Stevens was dragged for 85 metres over seven seconds before the fuel tank ruptured, creating an intense petrol and oil fire under the car.

Mr Stevens, a Scottish migrant, suffered burns to 80 per cent of his body and died in hospital the next day.
