I think you'll find that Jamie will be in mourning right now at such a tragic loss of his favourite brew. I can picture him sitting in the Paj on the side of the road sobbing his eyes out at the terrible sight.

When I saw that, I had a vision of his truck and van filled to over flowing with cartons tied / strapped on all over it,  looking like Tom Kruzes mail trucks or something out of an Ettamogah pub cartoon and Speewa  down on all fours lapping up the spilled beer with a tounge looking like a Porcupine from all the broken glass ..  ;D ;D

Better late than never.

Quote
Mandatory roll bar protection to be legislated for quad bikes

Within one year, all new quad bikes will be required to carry a warning to alert riders to the risk of roll overs, and meet US and European standards relating to brakes, suspension systems, throttles and clutches.

The new standards will also mandate that in two years all new bikes meet minimum stability requirements, though there are no new requirements for existing bikes.

"Quad bikes are the leading cause of fatalities in Australia for all consumer products that aren't regulated," Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar said in Melbourne today.

"This safety standard aims to address the high risk of rollovers, which is especially important for many farmers and their families who use these vehicles daily," he said.
Push for rider age limit

Mr Sukkar said he would also write to state and territory governments calling on them to ban children from riding adult-sized quad bikes, and prohibit passengers on single person quad bikes.

He will also recommend that states mandate helmets for persons riding quad bikes.

I just watched the protest/traffic hold ups on the news.

I reckon, if ya threw a bar of Palmolive soap in amongst 'em..... they'd scatter.

Most I reckon are only in it for the free pat down at the watch house.

I know we all are aware how weak our magistrates and judges are but come on. One of these protesters in Brisbane has been arrested 11 times. How could any magistrate take that? In otherwords he thinks the courts are a joke. I suppose that is one thing he is right about. Imagine if we did the same! Instant jail time.  I don't know why the police are bothering to make arrests. Just leave them. Kevin

Better late than never.

Presumably, any new restrictions will only apply when they are used on the public road?

Imagine if we did the same! Instant jail time.

Was saying the same thing watching the news last night.

If I drove up to Brissie, parked sideways across the lanes on the Story Bridge, blocking one direction, tossed the keys over the side & said Stuff yez all, I'd be in jail within 5 minutes! >:D

The difference between doing that & 1000 no-hopers blocking roads is ... ???

& one of them said on the news "Our message is getting through, because people are talking about what we're doing". Sorry, girlie, but most people are talking about fire-hoses, semi-trailers & so on, NOT supporting you >:D

I wonder whether we all might be getting a bit old. Can't anyone remember the Vietnam war protests in the sixties and early seventies?

Yep, it makes these current protests look like a Sunday picnic.
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan. I miss being able to acces the little tracks off into the scrub.

Cause just like then, if your older and it doesn't immediately affect you, well then they are just pesky kids who should just get a hair cut and get a good job.
Take off your cardigans fellas and stop being such old farts.

They are young and immature, may not be articulate, may not be espousing views you want to hear, but at least they arent sitting back accepting the bullsh*t mainstream politics and media is spewing out. I may not agree with all they say, but Im damn glad they are at least doing something about what they are passionate about.

The biggest threat we all face today is waiting for some else to make the changes needed.
That and collapsing bee populations.....
And micro plastics now infiltrating our water and food chains.....
And...... well you all know the problems, we just need to pull our collective heads out of our arses.
There's a big difference between kneeling down
......... and bending over.

But, but, but the Viet Nam war, well it was never really a war but a conflict, was real and tangible and something that people could see as fact, albeit that what they saw was on the tele.

mainstream media and politics (by and large) are pushing the exact message that these protesters are...

imminent climate emergency, death, destruction, etc, etc, etc...

maybe said protesters should do some more research on what they are actually wanting to achieve and the real-life repercussions of said actions.

plenty of actual science and research on both sides for a constructive debate, but only one side seems to be yelling louder and only one side doesn't really want to debate anything.

these protesters are passionate, yes, but their methods are misguided and their inability to accept an opposing (and equally plausible) point of view is their achilles heel.

I get depressed whenever a modern "leader" opens their mouths (that's political and business leaders).
But then I overhear the things my kids say in passing as they comment on general things they see and I'm filled with optimism.

We can rest easy knowing the old, greedy and dumb will all die soon enough and at least the young have good intensions (even if they can't articulate them perfectly).

I was on the couch with the kids this morning watching the news when they interviewed one of the guys from the Blue Planet series and played some amazing footage.
For a brief moment we all put down our phones and tablets and got drawn into the amazing images on the tv.
https://youtu.be/-pdlqV4fo68

Then they showed a whale eating a plastic bucket, a turtle dragging around an old fishing net and fish playing with a plastic bottle on the bottom of the ocean and I remembered that those advocating change are just annoying little kids and looney lefty vegan greenies.....

That's when we came back to reality and realised the old and selfish still have a few more years to go.
We can now resume with the prefered viewing....

They can make as much noise as they like, but they are only ever preaching to the converted. If young people really want to make a difference then they would be far better of trying to be like Boylan Slat than Greta Thunberg.
