GPS Dog Tracking Collar tags

Does anyone use GPS/3G dog trackers, to keep track of their dogs? My situation is, we take our dog onto the beach for a run in the dunes. But every so often, he decides to go exploring and can get out of site pretty quick. So I was thinking of getting a tracker unit (collar or clip on) that will show real-time location (every 10 or 20 secs I think is as close to real time as they get). It needs to be waterproof, small (he's a Jack Russell) and reliable. I don't want one with a monthly subscription fee either, apart from the sim data fee, of course.

I've seen a couple on the interwebs (Petrek, Nutag Seek, Findster), but was after any practical experience from any users on here, if they are about.

4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan. I miss being able to acces the little tracks off into the scrub.
