Holden has dropped the development and push for the V6 turbo !

Wonder how much of this decision is based on some the main sponsors threatening to pull out if the V6 was introduced .

Wonder if the reason was fuel economy ?
Maybe the thing chewed through so much fuel it would leave them at a distinct disadvantage ?

I'd say this far into development. When it came to power, economy, reliability and rebuild / maintenance costs. The numbers just didn't stack up when compared to the existing V8.

888 can't be too happy.  The exclusive lease deal to the other teams was an income top up, for lower sponsor dollars from GM.

More info here.

https://autoaction.com.au/2018/04/06/holden-cans-v6-engine-program

Under powered
Under funded
Cylinder head issues
Massively poor sales across all models

Biggest issue is the last part one.  Sounds like GM Detroit had enough of throwing money at a dead horse.

but thats been the case for a long time for V8's
Was Bayside Holden getting new key for mine few days ago... Every salesman was desperate to sell something - 3 came up to me in the walk from Service to spareparts (opposite ends of the site of ****in course).. I reckon I could have got a new house thrown in with a GTS. The yard is full of Commodores and not much else.

I was really hoping that the V6 wildcard would actually race , but in doing so get it's arse flogged by every Ford on the track.

Never mind , some one saw some sense and has at least for now canned the bloody thing .

This might be why GM canned funding the TTV6 development.

https://www.theage.com.au/business/companies/national-icon-driven-around-the-bend-20180413-p4z9gs.html

The ZB can dominant and clean sweep Bathurst and the Championship all it wants, but sadly Holden are officially dead. Unless they can actually put a car in the showrooms people want to buy.

Their best seller the Colorado, is getting pants by Hilux, Ranger and Triton.  No hero car and no stand out model.

I think thats a given.
the new "commodore" is nothing to write home about just having a look at it at the car yard.
take a run to a holden dealer, see wats in the yard... nothing is moving.
I think it interesting the meeting that was had with the boss from USA and dealers who are waiting for their own doors to close as they have nothing to sell people want.

Very interesting article. Lost brand identity and no models people want to buy, doesn't sound like a good recipe for success.

not the mention Australia accounts for only 0.94% of GM’s global sales, so why would they care what we drive here.

They don't.  GM are still trying to recover from bankruptcy. Return on investment for right hook versions is not big enough.

Walkinshaw Performance will make a tidy sum selling low volume right hook Camaros and Silverados to enthusiasts.  It will give Holden dealers a hero car to sell, but it will come with a fair price tag (compared to the Mustang) and wear a Chevrolet badge.

Ford making a return and giving the green light to the Mustang for DJRTP and Tickford.

https://autoaction.com.au/2018/04/16/exclusive-ford-returns-with-mustang

Electing to stick with the current 5L V8. Instead of using the the Le Man 24 hour winning Ecoboost twin turbo V6, or the 5.0 Coyote.

Sounds like Roger Penske used his clout with Ford Detroit.

Be interesting to see how much involvement Ford actually have?  Might be like the FGX, where Ford fund the areo and bodywork costs and after that teams are on their own financially.

Hopefully the new co-owners of Walkinshaw can apply the same pressure for a Camaro racecar.  Also give Nissan as reason to continue on with a GTR?

Now this article claims it will be V6 twin turbo powered.....  With no factory financial involvement other than technical assistance from Ford Performance to develop the package.

https://www.motoring.com.au/motorsport-ford-is-back-in-supercars-racing-112112/

Odd considering the Aussie sold Mustang is only available in 5L V8 and 2L 4cyl twin turbo.
