Anyway speaking of, the telecast is about to start at Philip Island so I am going to enjoy this day off and go to the shed to potter around while watching the racing  ;D

Le Mans Prototypes, Nascar, DTM, WRC, F1, indycar, V8's, etc. all have little to no road car relevance, yet all have large manufacturer presence.

Production car racing has its place, but manufacturers don't give a crap about it.  Manufacturers have no interest in doing public 'product testing' in road cars.  The risk is too high.

Organisers tried going down the production car path with the Bathurst 12 hour. Manufacturer and spectator interest was low, so they went with GT3 cars. Technically production based, but more pure race car.

The Bathurst 6 hour was on the other week with almost no manufacturer involvement.
Organisers probably need to make the field more relevant.  3 entries were 17 year old VY Commodores...

Personally I can't see it in the close future.  Ford are estimating 2 million dollars to develop the Mustang package.  Given Holdens current situation and having just tipped money into the ZB in the last 12 month.  Lot of money for a car that won't wear a Holden badge.

Maybe Walkinshaw and their new owners might pony up for the development. Given they're far from happy about having to be a  888 co$tomer.

That is exactly where a Camaro will come from if it happens, although Walkinshaw wouldn't want to risk the HSV relationship perhaps.

Be interesting to see what Holden...or...GM do next year.
I would have thought that Holden would pull the plug severely on budget since their sales of all vehicles have plummeted.
But having said that....they have traditionally stayed in when Ford have reguarly changed their minds about their involvement so I guess time will tell.

Looked like 888 had the rear wing set for less drag. Trade off was less downforce through the corners. Was a lot more unstable compared to Scotty and used up the tyres.

I think that aero package is not the biggest factor , might be something to do with horse power and torque . Otherwise every Holden on the track would be pulling away .

Both of the Ford teams and Nissan signed off on the new Holden aero package during the homologation process .

True enough.

Ford do have a history though of being on wrong side of aero..the AU days are a prime example.
DJR had very good horsepower...but got done at high aero Bathurst....still blame radisich for throwing that win away  >:D

He'd have to be set up for life wouldn't he ?
20 plus years of driving for X per contract....and Ford was rumoured to have paid him big bucks to switch over years ago.
Not having a go...just saying.

Nissan is set to focus on SUVs and electric vehicles.

Nissan revealed the news during its announcement about the brand's withdrawal from Australian Supercars Racing, citing that the racing series no longer aligned with its current and future strategy in Australia.

The Japanese brand announced that it will focus on high-riding family wagons and EVs in the future.

Yep its not a good fit for Nissan.

They came in using the ultima to get their foot in the door in the hope that the sport went the way they had planned, which was to introduce the turbo 6's but that direction looks like it has taken a nose dive.

Unless a manufacturer has a car with a v8 that works for the current car of the future then they are wasting their money. Supercars will be busting their arse to get the 6 cyl turbo's racing because they know that will attract other manufacturers.

Nissan entered the series with the wrong car and wrong team.

The Altima was a big flop in the showrooms and the Kelly partnership has been a flop.

I wonder where they'd be if they partnered with Stone Bros, Brad Jones or Garry Rogers back in 2012.  Or looked to Prodrive and Walkinshaw when they re-commited in 2016.

I don't think any manufacturer will be interested....but no reason at all why someone can't bring a turbo 4, 6 or even 8 cylinder to the table.

But unlike yrs ago ( Godzilla ) with a few cars having LOT'S more HP than the others, these days there is parity...which means they hobble any engine that develops a lot more HP than the rest. Some may say it's not fair, but the racing is certainly close.
