Try working in a supermarket and having to deal with them on a daily basis whilst moving the roll cages around the aisles, as well as dodging the other customers and trolleys... wife does... it's not fun. Some of the oldies here unfortunately have the old person attitude of "as you work in the shop you are my servant". Others are great it has to be said - many we get on with and are on first name terms with them.

Others manage to get around fine with the walkers with the seats and wheels - including one old boy who walks a good 1km each way each day. Many of these did as well until recently - I wonder if it's extra money from the NDIS?

Oh, and Edz called them out the other day as well - just in a more wordy way, and not in specific place...

Just remember, but for the grace of god that could be you, should you live long enough

Or is it the fear of offending someone?

I don't believe there is a person anywhere who would have put lights up but didn't because they were worried about offending someone.

I suspect by that time shopping will have changed... almost back to how it was before these oldies were young... no longer self service, and all delivered to the door! Admittedly when I was younger we still had mobile general shops and butchers, and they came to the door a few times a week.

Funny how things go round in circles...

Old people in the supermarket.

Why do they have to bring in a full size mobility scooter, literally the ones that are 3' x 5' and about 4' high... Normally a problem, but even worse on Christmas Eve...
When we were still at Tin Can, we'd shop at Woolies in Cooloola Cove.
The whole place is full of oldies.
Even the ones without scooters that use the oversized crab pots on wheels, were/still are, a pain in the friggin arse.

For some reason, Oldies just seem to think, its fine to park their trolley on a 45 degree angle, then chat to their mate, while they park theirs on a similar angle.
Then, when you try to thread the needle, they give that stupid half arsed "oh sorry", and then leave their crap there and continue talking.

One of my mowing clients had a scooter the size of a small bus and she is a friggin bitch on it.
On more than one occasion, i had to step back or have my boot run over when she'd come to pay for the mow.

That's the killer :'(

Unfortunately, a lot of the people who are using credit for everything have absolutely no idea of how to manage it ::)

There's no problem for those that can use the system to their benefit and not the banks. If you can't manage it cut up your cards or do without.

Wallet wizard and the like aren't aimed at people who can manage the payments. They make no money you.
Just look at the ads and the type of people and expenses they are targetting. "you have some bull**** expense here we'll give you money you can't afford and you can pay it back many times over"

Not only no cops but I've noticed a complete lack of Xmas decorations around the big town near where I live. Can't go upsetting the .3% of the population I suppose.

Sent from my TA-1024 using Tapatalk

It's got F'all to do with that, it's more about many of us really couldn't give a toss about putting up xmas lights. What does irk me though, is people that always have to read some hidden agenda into things like that. I mean seriously, do you really think that people are worried they might offend someone? And who would that .3% be?

I don't put them up, hoping I might offend the people that think I'm doing it for some anti-sectarian reason..  >:D >:D

I wasn't  referring to the decorations in and on private property. There are still a heap of them strung up around the place, and it is wonderful to see. I was, young sir, referring to the normal shire sponsered ones throughout the town center.
I based my assumption of offendind the minority on the fact that here in Victoria there are shires and councils refusing to celebrate Australia Day for that exact reason. I was merely wondering whether that was the thinking behind it.
If that upset you.....get over it.

I think that the town/shire illuminations are getting cut across everywhere for these reasons:
1) Cost of setting up
2) Cost of taking down
3) Council wearing the cost for no benefit (retailers may benefit, but the council with numerous rate freezes sees no increase in revenue from it)
3a) Less money coming in from corporate sponsors as the little shops and businesses who might have sponsored in the past are squeezed out by the big players.
4) Storing the damn things...
5) More and more shoppers using privately owned shopping malls rather than the city/town centres
6) The fact it's not dark in some places until 730pm-830pm (depending on State and how far South you are), so most people will have gone home from the smaller towns by that time (unless on the piss)

I know our council has done events in the town centre and parks, but doesn't seem to have bothered with the town lights (or at least that I've noticed). They do seem to have prioritised fixing the roads and bridges in the area instead, which I think is a much better idea...

Energex and their joke of a tree clearing exercise....

Watching them make their way down my street hacking their way through every hedge and shrub on the foot path and not touching a single over hanging gum tree.

Bottle brushes, Lilly Pillies, tea trees all smashed down to less then 2m above the ground, while the big dead gum tree branch is just hanging there after the tree split in half a few months ago is left untouched.
There’s 5 big gum trees with branches about 200mm diameter or more hanging directly over the lines between my house and town.
Apparently those are fine, but man those dangerous little shrubs are getting the full treatment today....

I can see they’ve marked about 10 or 12 little 50mm round saplings for death, but they’re not showing any interest in the really big stuff hanging above the cables.

They haven’t got to the big stand of gumtrees just past my place yet.
But if they don’t touch those ones I’ll be going for a walk and asking questions.

We had no power for 3 days when a branch from that specific stand of gums fell and snapped 2 cables last year. I watched them fall and it was scary as hell when the cables snapped.

I’ll count us as being extremely lucky then.
We’ve been without power at our house for about 14 or 15 days over the last 2 years.
Every time the power has been cut by trees and branches falling from above and landing over the lines. Not once was our power cut off by a shrub rubbing the underside of the lines.

I guess I should go get some lotto tickets with all of that luck....

5 guesses at what just happened.....

I’m at the back door of my shed and see the bush on the street glowing like a street light.
Then I see little flames and lots of sparks and race across to the neighbor getting ready for the fire to take off into his bush.

It’s still sparking and flaming up while we’re on hold with the ‘emergency’ line to energex. Finally get someone on the end of the phone and off she goes lit up like a Christmas tree, blinding my neighbor and I stronger then welding flash.
The energex guy on the phone says there’s no issues in your area, then ‘oh wait, we’ve just had a major outage there!’

I said not to rush out here to sort it, the trees where all “out of gauge” and perfectly fine apparently.....

A tree? if so from above or below?
