I suppose what I'm getting at is the phone can detect movement via gps. If it detects a speed faster than say 10kph it could go into do not disturb mode.

I spend 2 hours commuting to/from work every day. I use that time in the morning to call my team and check in with them, I use that time in the afternoon to follow up, call people back etc. All of this is done via voice activation in the Outback and I never touch my phone during this time. Yeah stopping calls whilst driving is a great idea, not!

F'ing Weekend Warrior World clowns.....had the unfortunate need to visit a Bumblings store this morning after the hardware store I visited first up didn't have the size palings I needed. Some clown in his Prado decides to park in the middle of the timber yard blocking the way for myself and the 4 vehicles behind me whilst he loads a couple of 2400 x 1200 blueboard sheets into the wagon area of his 4wd (that had to do his interior of his nice 4wd wonders). Eventually he moved and the held up vehicles all parked where he could just as easily of gone and parked at (he wasn't parked beside the blueboard pack either, was walking sheets back to his vehicle...they have trolleys for that you know mate, so get out of the way and let traffic move on). I get what i need and return back to my vehicle seeing another person has blocked my path out / parked in the middle of the road yet again, the guy says "I'll be back in a minute mate" to me and proceeds to run off inside the store...no worries mate, I have all day for you to do your stuff when you could have moved the vehicle right then and there....No wonder I hate visiting Bunnings

Doesn't matter what speed zone you're in - build it in that if the phone is moving, it can't be used.

Which, I know, is a bit ridiculous - a "mobile phone" that can't be used mobilely ::)

I agree, it aint rediculous and ensure SMS dont work either. If you are driving and using the phone even legally your focus on driving is distracted and distracted drivers cause accidents. If your mind is elsewhere while on the phone driving, how can one honestly say they are fully focused on driving? I also cringe at all the usually young ones that are texting while driving. Easy to spot head down looking at the phone in their lap and occasionally where they are going.
No phone call is that important - or if it is pull over and stop to take/make it.

Had people block our drive a few times when I  worked at the wreckers .. Ask them to move, they went off in their La la land and ignored me  ..
So out came the Fork lift and I stacked their vehicle on a pile of cars headed for the scrappers .. It stayed there till I got what I needed to do finished then got it back down for them .  They Never parked over my drive way again .

Yep, did that years ago working on a timber yard.

Funny, he never did that again

So, fine the crap out of those caught using their phones while driving.

Today, while travelling on the McIvor highway betweem Heathcote and Bendigo, in a road works zone, with workers visibly present and posted at 40Kph, I was overtaken by a driver in a light SUV (Mazda CX-9) while travelling at the posted 40kph (IAW my GPS). This vehicle, despite a large number of workers beside and on the road, decided that 40Kph did not apply to her.

Then on the way home (Bendigo/Heathcote) I was again overtaken by a person driving a Sansong Musso(?) however this clown actually overtook me as we were passing a CLEARLY VISIBLE speed camera car, but I doubt he will be booked as he actually passed, using my vehicle to shield him from the camera car, or he didn't realise that the extremely obvious car be the raod side was actually a speed camera car.

While we have FW on the road like these, we have no hope.

I finally gathered up all the ingredients and was all set to put the second water tank in the swan yesterday, opened it up and one of the legs failed, won't hold up. So I didn't get anything done and now have to take it into the service dept tomorrow.

I guess I'm relieved that it didn't happen while camping, but I really wasn't expecting it to happen at all on a 3 month old swan.

After all that is what people did for a couple of hundred years before the mobile phone was invented , interaction with others in person is a great way to kill time .

Heartily agree, the anonymity of social media allows people to puff out there chests and say whatever they like with no consequence to them. The times has come to make ISPs provide details to any police investigation and these clowns should feel the full force of the law. ( Maybe a little public shaming will help)

We used to use phone booths when travelling for work, I wonder if people who use their mobiles in cars would bother to stop and call someone if they only had access to a public phone. ( lucky to find one now)
It is all about immediacy and the expectation that everyone should be available 24/7 365 days a year.
After having a mobile for work for over 25 yrs and recently retiring I have a private mobile and it
barely leaves the bedside table, bliss! :D :D

I remember a staff member of one of those big green sheds ringing me 5.30 sat aft, saying he was sorry for calling, I replied so am I, call me Monday!

I think thst would be a good idea, but how doesthe phone detect which speed zone you are in.
but pointless when your allowed to **** with your GPS or tablet with mapping on it while driving, or your stereo to change CD's or stations, or USB sticsk etc etc...
I think the mobile fone is the less threat than that.

Too many "keyboard" warriors and they think that it ends when they log off, it doesn't and people are deeply affected by the behaviour.
It is sad that some thing that this is fun and I feel for all the families that are affected by it.

The problem is if they strike back they are the ones to get suspended as my son found out. Other kids kept picking on him and the school did pretty much f all. Not sure I made a friend when I told the teacher that perhaps I should tell my son to really beat the crap out of any kid that bullies him in the future - rather than just putting him in a headlock for a few seconds. He’ll still get suspended but the other kid and his mates might think twice in the future.

That said an unprovoked attack or hitting someone by complete surprise is not ok.

I feel for the families as well, but they also need to have some accountability for what their children are doing online.

I've worked in the IT industry for over 20 years, owned and run 2 ISP's, and the single biggest problem I dealt with with my businesses was lack of parental supervision when their kids were online.  Anything from porn to bullying to downloading of illegal content, and rather than supervising their children, most of my clients blamed me for providing the internet connection.

Don't get me wrong, no kid should be bullied in person or online, but ultimately the parents need to educate and supervise their kids so it doesn't happen.  Facebook for example has a minimum age of 16 in their terms and conditions, as does Instagram, but most parents ignore it so their kids can join up and grow up before they're ready to.

My best mates wife let their kid create a Facebook account when she was 11 "because she is very mature".  And the kid has never been supervised online because his wife thinks the kid won't do anything stupid.  I've cleaned more viruses from that girls computer than all my private clients put together, because she was never supervised.

My heart bleeds for the families who lose their kids to bullying, but ultimately it comes down to how you parent your kids.

My kids are supervised in everything they do, and will be until they are mature enough to understand the impact their actions have on others, and if they don't like it, they simply won't get internet time or other privileges

Schools do nothing to stop bullying.. they are terrified of offending someone.. my neighbour attempted to make an appointment to see the principal at his daughters school, he promised this and that, but would never meet up.. so Ant ended up going and sitting in his office waiting for him..
Principals first words to him were "She must have done something to deserve it.

Cammo got suspended after some kid attacked him twice..  Cam pushed him away, and the kid came back was choking him, so Cammo picked him up and threw him against a door... There was a teacher on other side of the door.. Apparently Cam should have "done something safer" WTF?

But the ****tard inbred vice principal couldn't tell us what else he could have done with some kid hanging off his neck - but he should have done something else.. Maybe stand there with his hand in the air like 1st class waiting for a teacher to walk past in an hour or 2 or until he passed out ???

The dumbest part, another teacher came up to the vice principal while I was questioning if his parents were related, and said we need Cameron for the interschool sports carnival tomorrow, so just suspend him for the after noon today ...
Reminded me of

I always told my 2 sons never show them your afraid, look them in the eye, even if your sh*tting yourself, cause they feed off the fear. They were both fairly lucky, as they were both tall (dont take after me though) and solid from young. The odd occasion they had trouble, it didnt last. Better to have a few awkward days that years off misey.
I wouldnt hesitate home schooling my kids if it was that bad at school for them. I feel so sad for kids and parents who are victims of bullying. Unfortunately the cockroaches of the world are multiplying at a greater rate than the decent people.

I think someone else said it well when they were talking to the cops and when they took problem kids home to the parents, the parents were kids themselves, and stoned off their tits and didn't care what the kids did, and abused the cops.
