Gotta love QLD Transport.
Miss 16 is ready to get her learners.
If she passes her $23.90 test, it will cost her another $166 for a 3 year permit.
But I can renew my open licence for 5 years for only $170.......??
Guess it teaches them early the government is after their money an way they can.
And don't get me started on the moronic system of paying rego based on number of cylinders......

isn't 3 years the length of a Provisional licence these days? So she would need to get a Open licence after that...but yes the pricing sounds rediculous.

Yep. You pay the $166 for a 3yr learners permit. After 12months you can go for your provisional. If you get it you pay $130ish for 3yrs....but you don't get any credit for the unused 2years of your learners permit.

Had the same conversation with my young bloke, when he got his L's in September. Explained to him that the "Licence" is actually a licence for the Govt to start making money out of him, so get used to it :'( >:( The girl at the counter agreed with me! >:D

& the reason you have to pay more for bigger cars, is because those extra cylinders create so much more torque & so on that it damages the bitumen & pulls the paint off the road, so they've got to spend more on road maintainance ::)

Coming up on twelve months retired and admittedly not under the best of circumstances but we are making it work and it's fantastic. All the jobs around the house that used to get put off are getting done because time allows and the place has never looked better.
We are able to concentrate on the wife's health, time for recuperation and recovery if she gets tired and not just having to push thru if she was at work.
Managed to get away four times and enjoy the camper trailer.
After 42 years in the workforce from age 14 I can honestly say I don't miss it, in the end it became a chore. The most annoying thing is people saying "you must be rich to retire at 56", we're not but we will make it work.
Remember, you are a long time dead and how many of us have lost relatives and close friends who were young.
I know not everyone can do it because of finances etc and it took us three years to make the jump and there's no looking back now!

We are in the same boat and I hate it when people say, 'You are Lucky.'  a Fellow traveller told me just reply, 'Yep, and I have found the harder you work the luckier you get!'  Health has also slowed us down a bit and then the follow up blood tests (3 monthly now for me and wife recovering from major back surgery) and the regular specialists check-ups for ever is a bummer, but the alternative is not good.  Yep, some just judge you and your perceived good luck.  We are now making our plans for a 4 month trip back to WA this year  ;D  Kevin

Good luck KrisandKev, hope it all works out and your trip comes to fruition.
I reckon we will be 2019 before we get a big trip in, six months recovery from Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinsons and then a knee replacement to be done before the wife will be ready to travel. Hopefully DBS middle of this year.
In the meantime a few smaller week to ten day trips will keep us out and about.
Where are you headed to in WA?

just reply, 'Yep, and I have found the harder you work the luckier you get!'

This implies that people who aren't lucky don't work hard.

No, it implies that people need to get off their arse to “get lucky” and achieve what they aim for.

There is really no suggestion of luck, it’s a way of saying “Work hard and you will get what you aim for.”

Any other view is painfully negative.

In Coffs Harbour we have a brand new hospital that was built with inadequate parking from scratch. And it's not because of a shortage of land either. It's also not like people are going to park there and then go off to do some non-hospital business, because it's not convenient to anywhere that doesn't have its own, better parking. The only possible reasons I can come up with is that they wanted to raise revenue from paid parking, or someone was just a complete dick.

I had a very painful kidney stone a while back, my wife had to drop me off at the end of the ER carpark (which was full) and then go off to find and buy a spot while I hobbled myself in. The nurses who work there literally park half a km away at the go kart track and then walk, because even the staff don't have parking.

A load of bullplop is what it is.

Doubled the size of Emergency with in 5yrs building
Birthing siutes were added , apparently nobody gives birth in Townsville !!!

There are so few specialists  in Qld hospitals and hospitals are often unavailable REGULAR emergency flights from Cape Yorke to Bris Veagas are carried out often .

Tomo, you forgot to mention that they only built the new hospital because the old one was so full of Golden Staff it had to be shut down. Then they proceeded to bring a lot of equipment from the Old golden staff infested hospital to the brand new ‘clean’ hospital.

I was ‘lucky’ enough to have surgery in the new hospital about 3 months after it opened.
Ended up with a terrible Staff infection from the surgery. The doctor in my post-op checkup was freaking out a bit when he saw the festyness that they had created, I’m sure he could see the news headlines about the brand new hospital that was just as deadly as the old one...

half a kilometre would be a short walk for many Brisbane hospital staff....many hospitals have a 2 hour parking zone in the entire surrounding area, so staff need to park atleast a kilometre away to avoid the zone. The zones are marked with big signs on the main roads that enter that area, miss the sign as you blink or are busy watching traffic etc and bad luck, you'll be clueless the street you parked in falls into a 2 hr restriction, you'll likely return you your vehicle to find a ticket on it.

Plus the fact that staff, usually nurses (as doctors frequently seem to get reserved car parks >:(), so usually female, are often walking to their cars very late at night / very early in the morning; & it's often the case that the clean, shiny hospital is located in a not very nice part of town, where I, as an adult male, wouldn't want to be walking alone at night :'(

There was a Dr's only carpark with 1 car in it, and around 49 free spots.  >:(

FWIW I don't have issues with Dr's and specially Nurses having reserved spots... last thing you want them doing in an emergency is joining the 50-60 cars doing 5kph lapping out around the block for 45 mins looking desperately for someone to be leaving

I'm a little irritated by RVPartsExpress. I ordered some pole carriers for my swan on Monday 1st, was starting to wonder when they would be shipped, so I sent an email and got an automated response saying:

RV Parts Express will be closed from
Friday 22nd of December.
And will re-open on
Thursday 11th of January.

I'm pretty confident there was nothing about that during any of the ordering process. Probably wouldn't have changed anything, since I can't find the same thing on caravansplus, but if it was something I needed right away I'd be really pissed.

I really enjoyed it... I may be a bit mad, but so nice to have on and the info that was in it was really good. It was so nice to have something on that you could drop in and out of, but at the same time it needed your attention because if you weren't watching it, you might miss out on bits and pieces that were teased out in it.

Nope they aren't, but if they keep putting Shit on TV like this, or like fake reality TV, and 17 hours of watching  nothing, then people who have expectations of entertainment or quality TV are suffering.
When they have articles in the paper about it being the "next big thing" - there isn't much hope for these people.
