We're spending 3 weeks in the US in July/August to suss the place out.
If we hate it.... we don't go any further.
If we like it..... we move forward.

I was aware of the 188 homicides, mostly all happens in one spot.  ;D

3 weeks isn't anywhere near enough, I've had holidays over there longer than that.
If you're really serious about this rent your house out here and go over and rent a place for a year, then, and only then could you make a semi informed decision

Good advice Xcavator.

I’ve not lived overseas but have lived in many place here in Oz, from Newcastle, to south West WA, Gove in the remote NT, Townsville and now Brisbane. All of them had their bad points (and some might even be described as Shitholes), but the positives have always outweighed the negatives and my family would have missed out on meeting some fantastic people and seeing a lot of this beautiful country.

You only live one life so I say, give it a go.  You can always come back.

GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote
Don’t bring a fake gun to a gunfight.
https://youtu.be/owALP-rVpEE

Or, better yet, don’t try to rob a 7-Eleven with a fake gun when the security guard has a real one.

Two would-be robbers would have done well to take this elementary advice before their attempted “armed” robbery went awry when a heroic armed security guard shot the men and held them at gunpoint until the police arrived.

In this YouTube video that’s making the rounds, two black males in hoodies enter a 7-Eleven in Hamilton, New Jersey just before midnight and approach the counter.

One takes out his fake gun (that looks real), hops the counter, and pushes the cashier to the side.

The other criminal removes his backpack, jumps the counter, and opens the cash register.

As he’s about to begin removing cash, a security guard bursts into the store and shoots both robbers, who fall to the ground.

The guard then approaches the counter and again shoots the robber holding the fake gun, while the other yells, “It’s fake! It’s fake!”

“Oh well,” the guard responds. “Mine’s real!”

“Am I shot?” asks one of the robbers.

“Oh, f**k yeah!” says the guard in the video.

“Oh, f**k,” says the wounded robber.

The truck load of foam arrived on site today in prep for another slab  for a new house .
The driver wasn't much of an operator as when he unloaded he asked which way to get out to the road . l pointed across the open ground at 300M of grassed paddock . Wonder Truckie decided he knew better so promptly beached his trailer pull on a sloping block . Didn't have a jack , or any idea of what to do . We had a giggle  gave him a shovel & walked away . Some 2 hours later WT is still scratching about trying to get free .
3 1/2 hours  later     :cup:                  ;D ;D

I caught up with Footy Shorts Shane on Thursday on the way back from Brisbane.

He's got some great stuff in the workshop at the moment. Some very nice cars... always enjoy calling in there.

Hi All, I was watching A4A today and the boys are always going on about having good tires in the rough country they go in, Mostly mud Terran tires I thought yep maybe the next set it would give a set ago, Anyway they were on Groote Island right down the southeastern corner with the locals land owners, They were towing there campers and were loaded to the max and said the tracks they come in one were up there with some the wildest they have been on, anyway the camera pans around and here is this old 80 series that the locals owned sitting there with what looked like the same cheap Chinese ATs tires I run on my old 80, And if you know the locals that old girl would of been loaded to the max coming in there, It just made me smile, Craig

Bought 3 Rory Gallagher lps on Saturday, along with others at a second hand record fair. Going through them, 2 of them are unopened, still sealed in the wrapper, the other doesnt look played. Great pick up for $15 each.

Thanks everyone, this has been a long and sometimes arduous journey, but I'm sure the wife's positive attitude has helped. From day one she said it could have been worse, she could have been 27, with three young kids and terminal cancer but instead I'm 48 with three adult children and we will cope.
