Got a quote the other day. Price to insure my Prado was surprisingly cheap, around $570 and you can pay monthly without penalty. I haven't taken it up yet but probably will at this stage. I have to insure my van in January and I'd like to see how they stack up on that, I saw on another site that they weren't so good on campers/vans so I'll have to see how they stack up. Something of interest is that you get $1500 cover for recovery and the policy covers engine damage due to contaminated fuel. For another $13 a month you can bump up recovery cover to $15k, pretty handy in remote areas.

I got a online quote last week and they were a little cheaper than my current AAMI policy, but I was going for an agreed value policy and their highest agreed value for my vehicle was about $15,000 lower then AAMI’s.  So I will stay with AAMI, plus I am not sure their policy on accidental fuel contamination which I know AAMI covers.  Kevin

Our son is insured through AAMI. He had fuel repairs (unknown source of fuel contamination) covered late last year, but only because he had renewed his cover just before they discontinued covering contaminated fuel. His renewal date is about Aprilish.

They may of started covering it again, or he could of been given a bum steer by the call centre......

Might pay to check if you are covered.

Father in law also had fuel contamination  (self inflicted mistake) covered by AAMI early last year as well, so can't complain of their service, so long as they still cover it!

I believe they have a specific exclusion in their policy for when the incorrect fuel (eg putting petrol in a Diesel tank) is put into the vehicle but contaminated fuel is covered, if that is found to be the cause of your problems.

Thinking of insure with them. Any though and experience with them.

No experience but they are underwritten by The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd (Hollard).  Give them a google and check out Whirlpool

Have copy of email from them that they do provide such cover.  ;D  I did take out the cover about 2 years ago.

Not sure if you need cover for contaminated fuel, but when I sent Shannons an email about that cover they said they do not provide cover for contaminated fuel.   (Again, that was 2 years ago.)

I know this has been covered before and not to get off the thread, but I was mazed how many insurance companies either do not provide this cover or are non committal.  Hopefully I will never have to make such a claim.  :D     Kevin

These are the things that I have found hard to get all points covered -

1. Full offroad cover (anywhere/anytime)
2. Loss of coolant (ie. lets say you blow a hose or something and the engine cooks). Some cover this some don't
3. Contaminated fuel (most important for common rail diesels)
4. Agreed value including accessories

I have insurance through Affinity the specialised 4WD insurance. The way I read their policy they no not cover point 2 and 3
I am going to look into TCIS next

What is TCIS?
http://www.tcis.com.au/index.php/4wd-vehicle-insurance/b_4.html

they used to be 4wd Vic's insurer bout 8 yrs ago.. they were cheap as dirt, and covered everything and anywhere anytime...

They then just dropped doing it
One reason I heard  there were so many dodgey claims going through from people doing comps and smashing up their cars, and claiming them, and a few other reasons.

Club 4x4 came to our 4x4 club meeting a couple of months ago.
I have no other association with them so this info might be out of date.
Told me that fuel contamination was not covered.
Value for vehicle did not include accessories so a $10k vehicle could have $10k of accessories and be covered for $20k. Accessories did not depreciate so new for old replacement of these as long as they are on your policy.
Campers was new territory for them and were market value only. I made point that many thousands in accessories are also added to campers. I believe he was going to look into this cover also.
Cheers
Andy

Just reading through the Club 4x4 policy. Exciting stuff!

A couple of points of exclusions they have specifically listed-

someone fills the tank with incorrect fuel
vermin (rats eat wiring/etc)
Bent chassis if overloading

No mention of contaminated fuel, only the usual -
Not covered for any structural, mechanical, electrical or electronic failure or breakdown. (i would expect contaminated fuel to fit under this).

They have also listed that they have to agree in writing for any modifications from manufacturer specifications.

Club Marine is Allianz.  Totally unrelated.

Club 4x4 is underwritten by Hollards.  Hollards underwrite a lot of specialist style polices plus their own.  They also do Life Insurance - e.g. Real Insurance

Ahh okay well I just dealt with hollard/real with my mums corrolla. She has dimentia and had an accident and left it till months later. They were okay and at first were only go to cover the basics but after a little bit of argy they came good and fixed the lot. Few der moments where they chased me for the excess I'd paid months ago etc.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

G'day Krisandkev. Very curious issue you have there. Our stance is that we get an agreed (or market) value for your car. Once we've agreed with that we then ask you what your modifications are worth. We add them together to give you your sum insured.

Not sure what has gone wrong but its very very rare (as in never happened) that AAMI will cover you for more than we will.

Please respond or PM me and i'll get someone to give you a call if you like.

G'day Andy,

This is Kalen, i was the one who came and presented. I have to clarify this. That was my mistake and we have published an article here http://www.club4x4.com.au/news-update-contaminated-fuel/ to make it super clear.

I apologise if i made it unclear, i was alluding to the fact that we have an exclusion if the wrong fuel is entered. But no point us being a 4X4 insurer if we aren't covering fuel contamination.

Please accept my apologies

Simple question...
Do you have a rule about %age of accessory cost to vehicle? Some insurers wont allow more than 10% of the vehicle costs in accessories.

EG: do you have a rule ...if the vehicle is worth $8000 you cant have more than X amount of accessories on it?
Or Club4x4 are happy to insure it if there is $8k vehicle and genuine $20,000 of accessories and go agreed value.

Thanks

Hi Homer Jay

1) Off-road Cover. Here is an article that might be helpful http://www.club4x4.com.au/gazetted-or-nos-the-question/. One thing we had to have 100% right was where you are covered. Our line is very clear, gazetted, non gazetted or cutting your own path you will be covered anywhere in Australia. As long as you aren't doing something illegal, illegally trespassing or disobeying road closures or local law enforcement directions you will be fine.
2) Loss of coolant - I can't see anyone that does comprehensive motor insurance that will cover you for mechanical damage. We aren't any different. We do however have off-road recovery cover, this article http://www.club4x4.com.au/covering-your-recovery/ gives you more information about that too. No one in the market including the insurance agent you are currently with will provide you with this cover. We offer $1500 in the basic cover, and you can pay extra to have up to 15k, or 30k cover if you are doing Cape or the Simpson etc.
3) Contaminated Fuel - i clarified that one above, sorry that there was a mix-up there.
4) Agreed Value including accessories - this is a key differentiating point for us. We come to an agreed or market value assessment of your vehicle, then we ask you how much you've invested in mods and accessories. We then add the two together and that's your sum insured.

Hope that helps!

Hi There,

No we don't. But as specific percentages we may ask for photos and or a list of modifications/accessories. At that point we will decide what to do going forth.
