There is no link between owning a gun and killing someone, and not owning a gun and not killing someone. And you are a fool and a communist to say otherwise!

USA: 270,000,000 guns... 88.8 guns per 100 people... 9,960 gun related homicides a year.
Canada: 9,950,000 guns... 30.8 guns per 100 people... 173 gun related homicides a year.
Australia: 3,050,000 guns... 15 guns per 100 people... 30 gun related homicides a year.

Is that all?  Wow, it seems like the number should be more than 9,960.

I just spent 3 months in Chicago and any city which needs a map like this has an problem.

Umm, I think there is....pretty simple maths....if no one had a gun, they couldn't shoot someone !!....if I had a bad day and wanted to go berserk and shoot someone, I wouldn't know how to lay my hands on one.

Those figures for Australia....not sure where they come from, but there might be an average of 15 guns per 100 people, but there must be a minority that own a lot of guns, because most of our population lives in cities or major towns and I just don't see how those figures could apply to the majority ??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

Homicides Per 100,000 PPL:

Aus: 0.11
Can: 0.51
USA: 3.55

Don't know how accurate that is.

It's a Bill hicks quote referencing the stupidity of the American mindset around guns.

Small | Large

England, where no one has guns: 14 deaths. United States, and I think you know how we feel
about guns – whoo! I’m gettin’ a stiffy! 23,000 deaths from handguns. But there’s no
connection, and you’d be a fool and a communist to make one. There’s no connection between
having a gun and shooting someone with it, and not having a gun and not shooting someone…
OK, though admittedly last year in England they had 23,000 deaths per soccer game.

Hilary Clinton happened to be speaking about the need for gun control at a campaign stop in Florida just as the attack was unfolding, per ABC News' Liz Kreutz.

In a tweet, Kreutz quoted Clinton as saying that "90 americans a day die from gun violence, homicide, suicides, tragic avoidable accidents. 33 thousand Americans a year die. It is time for us to say we are going to have comprehensive background checks, we are gonna close the gun show loopholes

And from Twitter:  I refuse to accept this as normal. We must take action to stop gun violence now. -H  (https://twitter.com/HillaryClinton/status/672149874046083072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

I did see a tongue in cheek comment the other day, that if 80,000 african-american males applied for a permit to carry and applied to join the NRA, gun control would be law in about 7 days.......

It is a sad indictment of the USA that an outdated law "The Right to Bear arms"is still entrenched in their society.

At least 1,042 mass shootings since Sandy Hook

Vox has published a 'mass shootings tracker' using a crowd sourced database of every incident since the devastating mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut where a gunman killed 20 children and six adults.

Since then there have been at least 1,042 shootings, amounting to 1,312 deaths and 3,764 wounded.

You can argue about USA gun policies all you want and get no resolution. I reckon it comes down to the difference in our societies. Australia, although we grew from a convict settlement with harsh conditions and the  treatment metered out, has never gone down the track of carrying guns as per the USA. They still think that the right to bare arms is a God given right. We think that the right to bare arms means to wear short sleeves.   Parts of their society are so paranoid about government takeover conspiracies, invasion and the protection of their "rights" that arming themselves is part of everyday life. Simply put, they are nuts! The day our society starts down that road of thought  will be a very sad day for this country.

Not too long ago a friend went to visit his sister in Miami.
After a sleep he wanted to go shopping so asked for a lend of the family wagon.
He was told the derringer (small .22 pistol ) is in the drivers door pocket,
and the 38 revolver was in the glovebox.
He also received instruction not to enter the shopping mall without it.

Watched a doco  last night on abc2.  A lady (who looked like my grandmother) as asked in Ferguson if she was 'carrying'. She replied as she pulled a small pistol out of her little handbag that she always likes to be prepared.......
And I carry a Leatherman in my door pocket for that same reason......

Maybe they need a gun buyback. Instead of giving them money give them a camper trailer each and teach them how to chill out
