Well, daylight saving time stops here tonight and the clocks go back an hour.

I'm not predicting any immediate problems with sun bleached soft furnishings as a consequence.  ;D

So lm not sure whether that is a good thing for me or not. We have a daughter living in London and she has a habit of messenger calling at around 5 or 6 am (Qld time) and waking us up.

That's alright, it's already well and truely light by then, went and layed with my youngest daughter the other night as she was sick, looked at the holes in the blind slats where the string goes through and thought I had left an outside light on. When I got up to check I then realised it was just that it was already light outside at 4:15am

Only southerners, could work on the theory, that if they cut 2 inches off one end of their outdoor table and then clue/screw it to the other end, and then believe, they now have a bigger table.  ???

Lived in Vic for 30 years and then top of Aus for 30.  Loved daylight saving when in Vic.   As I worked outdoors when in Darwin and then all over the place we were allowed to start an hour or hour and a half earlier to beat the heat. Here in Cairns now it is light at 5a.m.  Why the hell the Qld retards dont want daylight saving is beyond me. Everyone that I talk too, that works outside, say they would love it so as to beat some of the hot afternoon sun. Stuff what the city office workers want!  Now North Qld has a reputation of being full of rednecks..I dont agree.  I think much of Qld has em....Common sense...they just dont get it..

Nope. Cairns is just full of escaped Mexicans these days....
All complaining about the humidity and how they can’t understand why there isn’t daylight savings everywhere.... :P

Wont be me complaining mate...20 years in the top end and I,m used to it.  Cairns is mild compared to the Territory.  Retired now so daylight savings means stuff all.  Just dont understand how people working outside in a climate that is only getting warmer still dont get a chance to start earlier. We also have the countries highest skin cancer rates.    Anyway the office workers in air-conned buildings will be happy...just a pity that many school kids still dont even have air conditioned buildings...reckon they,d enjoy an earlier start as well..  Thank christ the mexicans are up here..at least it gets the average Queenslanders IQ into double figures....

Labor leader Jodi McKay has lobbied the NSW government to consider a request made by one of her constituents that daylight saving be shortened to help combat climate change.  In the letter sent by the Strathfield MP to Energy Minister Matt Kean, Ms McKay writes that her constituent "advises that daylight saving time in NSW had made last summer too hot for walking in Hammond Park, her local park, at 8pm as the temperature at that time remained at the 40°C mark".   "[The constituent] has requested the duration of the daylight saving period in NSW be shortened as it has a significant impact on climate change," Ms McKay wrote on October 11. "I await your consideration and response on this matter."

Not sure if this is a set up or what.......

Cheers

It actually makes some sense; one of the reasons for Daylight Saving Time was to change the hours of operation of businesses (and also the times people were home at), and thus reduce energy use during the wars. It's 8.30 here and dark, I have the light on... in about an hour's time I'll go to bed, and get up at 7am when it is daylight again. In contrast, 500km north of me it's only 7.30pm, and still dark and they'll have the light on for another 2 hours to go to bed at the same time, and will get up well into a daylight period in the morning (as it would be the same time as my 8am if they got up at 7am QLD time)
