When selling a vehicle especially a 4WD make it shine. So many sellers these day take crappy photos , advertise it dirty and then wonder why no one shows interest. Buyers will want to see pictures of it like new, no dirty motors , no dust inside but sparkling.

Hints:

Detail from top to bottom yourself or pay someone to do it.

Armor All or simliar product inside and out.

Clean the motor. Even under the bonnet itself.

Clean all the door seals, rubbers etc and all dust is gone. Yes this can take time but buyers want a clean car.

Any extras such as awnings have them extended for the photos plus any extras have them photographed.

Get great photos so that buyers can see what they are buying. Your not selling a cheap DVD player, if you have to pay a professional photographer so be it or find someone doing a photographer course from tafe etc and ask them to take the photos, the more the better. Spend money to make money.

Make a story, photos from the outside including front, sides , rear then internally. Use wide angle shots if necessary.

Describe every addition you have put into the vehicle. Add up the cost you have invested in the extras. Were they installed professionally or not.

Remember you have taken this vehicle off road not just to church every Sunday. Buyers want to know you have not flogged it to death. Mention the service history and have the receipts to prove it.

You are vying for the same buyer like everyone else so make sure you are on their consideration list. It must scream value for money.

Be prepared to negotiate.

Good luck with the sale.

I price my cars at what I would happily pay for it.

Seems to do the trick.
My alternative to cheap import trailers;

Then you will have to pay people to take it

Agree with Mark 100%. One of the first things I check when buying is the bottom of the door rubbers. Also cleaning the boot is just as important as the inside.

If you park/advertise your car on the side of the road, don't put a windscreen size sign that says " FOR SALE" (captain obvious) and then put the price in 15mm letters on a piece of A4 paper so that people can't see the price unless they pull over.

Just put the price on on the big windscreen sign.

I agree with your post McGirr. I have been looking for vehicles for a while now and with some of the photos and comments you just shake your head and think, "How do you expect someone to want to buy that!"

At least run it through a car wash if you are too lazy to detail it!

Why not?

Any type of silicone product on dashboards etc will eventually dry out the plastics rather than protect them as they'd like you to believe, a bit like the old tanning oils.
Other than that it gives a greasy, dust attracting finish. Also with majority of dashboards these days protruding further forward the shiny, greasy finish reflects quite badly on the windscreen when driving into the sun. There are much better non silicone products on the market which actually do what they say they will.

Being a detailer I quite often get told that it's not worth spending the money to have a professional do it and I'm sure when the yards give appraisals on used vehicles they totally agree. Much better for them to have it done and make all that extra money for themselves.

Not having a dig at McGirr's post at all here and realise that more often than not Armourall is often just a term used due to clever marketing.

Mate all good, it's the only thing I could spell  ;D

The idea of the thread was to assist people selling. Buyers expectations will always vary.

If your going to sell your car with a RWC.  Go and get it checked out first, so you know exactly how much it will cost you.

Don't assume it needs nothing and ask top dollar for it.  That way a buyer doesn't negotiate a price subject to their friends mechanic giving it the all clear.  Said friend and mechanic then waste a Saturday morning finding almost $2000 worth of repairs required, only for the seller to then up the price by $1500 once he find out!
