Do you guys and girls wave to oncoming  Tourists/motorists in general while driving?

I work in the Cooper Basin on a gas rig, today we did a rig move which took us along the southern section of the Strezlecki Track, quite a few tourists were out and about. We passed one large group that were all pulled up on the side of the road not far from the Merty Merty station turnoff and everybody got up and had a look at the rig carrier cruise past (pretty awesome sight in itself)  gave us a big wave and we waved and gave a coupla honks on the air horns in return. All was good in the world.
Little further along we passed a white 100 series and a silver/gold GU patrol, both oncoming, I had my window down so gave them both a bit of an arm out the window wave…. NOTHING from either in return! Not even the old one finger lift off the steering wheel!   

Not that it really matters, but it just that simple gesture of recognition, like when you say G’day to somebody you’ve never met in passing, you probably will never see them again, but you say it anyway.

So who of are the non wavers amongst us? Please identify yourselves… and enlighten me on your non-responsive ways

Its the same on motorbikes..
All the years of going to Rallies and Touring everyone waved and chatted when I first started in the early 80s, even to a young donk like myself at the time.

Later years, everyone was all attitude and the im better than you attitude.

They were probably alternating between the scangauge, tyredogs and 15 forms of GPS to make sure they weren't going to break down or get lost and didn't see you.

I'm kicking the habit. Used to do it a bit for a laugh but there is a time and place and just because you've left your home suburb and venture into a rural/country town dosent mean everyone wants to wave to a complete and total stranger. I just don't really see the point unless your really remote, or on a narrow/obstructed road and you need to move/pull over to safely pass.
Just like when I used to ride motorbikes... Some riders feel the need to nod at every single bike they ride past. WTF is with that?
Whatever floats ya boat, but no need to get cranky if you don't get a wave back.

Always try to wave when travelling. Usually get a response but not so much from women. Usually the bloke will wave from the pax seat. Some people  just won't wave and you can see it in their eyes. My missus is just as bad.

When I'm in the truck I wave to other trucks, when I'm on the bike it's the acknowledgement nod. Towing a camper usually get a wave. But when I nod at a truck I realise its time for a powernap!

Way back - When I grew up in the country (Warwick / Qld) - a quick flick wave is courtesy - it's just one of those things - my thought is that when you're in the country, if you run into trouble and you're going to need some help - you want to make sure you were friendly to everyone as you never know when you will need some assistance...
In the city it's not practical to waive to everyone otherwise you'll look like Croc Dundee in New York....

When I'm out in the bush or in the Outback I do...and I used to wave to Defender drivers

Hubby and I near got RSI over in the Kimberley a few years back

Great thing about booting a white Cruiser trayback (apparently there's one or two in the bush) around the landscape is - everyone thinks your a local! Yes, you ALWAYS get to share a wave with road trains downwards, EXCEPT  from a certain breed of grey nomad in a shiny new top-line Pradojero pulling an equally shiny new giant caravan. Last winter, on a 5000km run through SW QLD, we were able to pick up a tail of 2-3 of these glossy extravaganzas quite often. You can see the thinking - let that fella cop the 6 roos, I've got a new $200K investment to protect here. How common is it to pick up fans and followers like this? Never ever stopped roadside for a bite or a cuppa with camper-trailers present without a g'day and a chat, including the occasional invite for a guided tour over the setup. This was one of the things that convinced us to buy a CT! Here's to waving.

On really remote tracks I will but say from here to Halls Creek, nope - unless they have local plates. Just don't see the need. Also my driving style doesn't suite for lifting the finger off the top of the steering wheel. I don't really see the point for town driving.

Same in trucks. When I was a kid traveling with the old man every one waved but not now bugger all. All the drivers use to be friendly with each other, now it's just about a dog eat dog world.

Out here Central West Qld, everyone waves, yeserday coming back to Barcy from Longreach, no van in tow, came across a group towing Ultimates and not one wave.  And I find that most people towing campers do not wave, I wave if I am towing the van, camper or alone.

I've always lifted a finger off the wheel, when out of suburbia, to locals, road workers, traffic controllers, most other traffic & other Land Rovers. As mentioned above, the main "Tunnel Visionists" appear to be the flashy pants, retired academia types in their shiny 4Bees. Older Series & Rangies, Disco 1 & 2 & Defender drivers are pretty good but 99 % of Disco 3 & 4 drivers seem to be in the former category. (Oooh, can of worms perhaps? Hope no one from Aulro with a D 3 or 4 read this )

I wave to everyone, it does mean a little confusion here and there. Mostly after I remember that I'm not on a motorcycle. Usually that understanding hits home while I'm swapping insurance details with the people I was lane-splitting past. It's sure a lot easier on a motorcycle I can tell you that!

apparently its hard to wave to people as they disappear into the distance you'd know that feeling :D:D:D:D

Around here, everyone waves to each other.... small coastal though.

When we still had the bikes on the Sunshine Coast, the ol girl got plenty of waves, but long blonde hair on a Trumpy or later on, the Harley, will always get that.

When I rode the big black Jap cruiser I had, not many waves, none at all from Harley owners.

However, when I rode the custom chopper, nearly all the Harley riders wanted to wave or ride beside ya, thumbs up etc.

Oh, except one guy who wanted to street race me.... He drilled me getting away from the lights, but I hauled past him by 200 metres and just flogged him.
At the next set of lights, he wouldn't even look at me, much less wave to me.

Likewise, around my home area with plenty of cockies we all do the finger lift, except women; they NEVER initiate or return a wave.
On trips recently with my caravan, nearly all vanners waved. On a trip around Coober Pedy I was waved at by vanners even though I wasn't towing anything. So anyway, I find travellers (at least in SA) nearly always wave, so I make sure I raise the finger (friendly like of course).
