Spare Tire Bike Carrier

Does anyone use a Spare Tire Bike Carrier, ie a bike rack/carrier that attaches to the spare tire, say on a Pajero or Prado or any other vehicle where the spare tire is mounted on the back?

The reason I ask is, could one of these racks be used on the rear mounted spare tire of a camper trailer?

I carry mine and the missus's bike on the roof of the X-trail (a real 4WD  ) and usually the kids bikes on the bike rack attached to the tow bar. 

I'm looking at trying to take to weight off the back of the X-trail and I'm trying to work out if I can carry the kids bikes on a rack attached the rear mounted spare on the camper trailer.

What do you guys think?

Have been thinking exactly the same,  but not sure how. My son manages a bike shop in Rocky so gunna give him a call for a towbar setup & see if I can modify

Yep it will work. Providing the spare tyre has good enough support it will be fine.
Moggy, with how the eco mate spare supports top and bottom you should be fine with it.
I used one mounted to the rear on mine and found strapping the bike rack to the outside edges stopped 90% of the movement and was really sturdy.

I find the the weight of the bikes causes the carrier to slowly rotate the bike rack one the spare tire (maybe 2cm of rotation per 500-600km). This means that it is definitely not suitable for off-road or dirt road use.

That's another reason I use straps (ratchet) to the outside edges of the trailer. It just gives it extra support and stops it pulling to one side or back and forth.

No I don't unfortunately. But I shall draw a picture.

On the last camper I just used the eyelet bolts as I didn't have anywhere to tie it off. On the new hard floor I should have plenty of options.

Probably be good on bitumen, but dont know whether i'd trust it on dirt, you might pull up & not have bikes or carrier.
I was thinking along the lines of utilising the existing spare wheel bolts & then extend a plate out to which the bike carrier is attached, alternatley replace the plate that holds the spare & have a new plate with bolts for all the spares holes with half of them longer to allow to bolt a plate/bike carrier to the extra bolts. If 16mm dia bolts work yould even drill a hole in the end to put a split pin or similar through. Just carry a battery driver drill (which i do) to rattle off bolts/nuts if access to spare is needed.
I may have to fire up the cad program & try remember how to use it & do some diagrams.

I found this worked a treat, Again on hardcore off roading I wouldn't be putting my bikes on the back anywho due to the risk of stuff smashing into them.

(P.S: this method of tie down works for hitch mounted ones too. Every bike rack I have ever had moves. So I found by strapping it down like this it stops all the movement.)

Yeah pretty basic really, the eyelet bolts were the real winner.
I found some at my local car accessories shop. (the old style one where stock has sat for like 20 years) They were actually rated to about 300kg or so.
They were load restraints for a ute tray.
