Think I'll have to buy a Baby Q

Have been reading through the Weber Baby Q thread............think I'm sold. After battling with the Cob oven on camping trips, I'm a bit over it !!

Have seen one at Masters for $258.00........seemed like a good price. Has anyone got anyone prices or links ?? Thanks in advance.

PS.. Will have a Cob for sale soon.

We have a Ziggy (Ziegler and Brown - BBQ Galore version of a Weber) and although we are yet to use it camping, it is an awesome bit of kit.  The advantage of this over a weber is that webers are made to be used with the lid closed, whereas this does both.  Also, it has 2 burners (one each side) so you can control where and how the temperature is (i.e. burner on one side and slow roast on the other so it is indirect heat).  We have found that it heats up very quickly, can use it open for traditional BBQ or closed for slow roast, pizzas, bread, etc.  It has now replaced our 4 burner hooded BBQ in the backyard.  Can't wait to take it camping with us next month.

They sound interesting.There is only 2 of us ....are these bigger than a Baby Q ?

Don't be concerned about the lid up or down thing.  A Weber BabyQ cooks the best steaks you will ever taste with the lid down.  Only negatives you will hear about a Weber will come from the mouths of salesmen who don't sell them.  A Webber owner will tell you the facts

I'm not doubting you can cook a decent steak with the lid down, but Webers are designed to be used that way only.
Each to their own.  You may find some interesting reading on the Aussie BBQ forum as to models and their benefits. For us the lid height was a major choice factor too. There is a difference in the Weber models you buy from big chain stores and the smaller specialist retailers - you could never cook a roast or bake in the chain store ones, there just isn't the same height inside.
From memory our Ziggy is more the size of the middle Q.

Another vote for a Ziggy.  Absolutely love ours.  Before you buy a Weber go into BBQ galore and compare each alongside each other as they sell both.

Wow it's only 2 cm cooking height difference. I thought there was more! Still 13cm is not much clearance if you are roasting a chook or leg of lamb. The thermostat is handy to have though for the sake of $10 or $20.

What's the cooking height of the Ziggy with the lid closed.  Did a quick google but couldn't find that spec?

Extra height lid, thermostat and electronic ignition are the differences between a Weber dealer's model and one from a chain store like Rays or Masters

Just measured it.
22cm from grill to highest point of lid, but practically it is more like 20cm internal height for the middle section (probably half the total grill area).

Would go weber q have family q at home and purchased baby q for camper both have thermostate best bbq I have owned cheers Mark

We cook roasts in our webber q all the time. No issues with size.

I've got the high lid baby Q and love it!  Got it for camping, but it now also serves duty as the home BBQ too.  Buying the accessories gets addictive and expensive too...
Cooked plenty of family roasts and probably only maybe 10% of those might have hit the lid on the standard model.

The Ziegler & Brown would be better compared to the Q220, due to size, weight and price.

The Z&B is a nice bit of kit and BBQ's Galore push it pretty hard as my old man found out when he looked at the Weber.

I use the weber q with the lid up no problems, particularly if I am doing b&e or a piece of fish. No problems.

One thing that doesn't get a mention too much about the webberq's is that are EXTREMELY economical and hardly use any gas. I've been on a 9kg bottle for several months at home and that's using it a couple of times a week at least.
