I learnt that when two would be thieves climbed my front fence last night and started snooping around my shed that when confronted by my two rotties they could not make it back to the front fence , from whence they came in fact i learnt three lessons last night.
1 they cant run as fast as rotties
2 they cant read warning signs saying do not enter ,dogs protect this house!!
3 blood runs freely when 2 x 45 kg male rotties are chewing on your legs

I think it would shock most people just how fast - but then depends on conditions, other materials in walls/floors

I learnt that you should never attempt to start a vehicle  ( lets say a little bread truck ) without being seated in the drivers seat!
Because it could be in gear and it could "crank " over and come to rest on ya toe area of the left foot!
And then you need to "crank" it off said toe area! OUCH !

:'(
Cheers

I learned that some of my peers are learning the hard way too-
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/embarrassing-nanny-state-red-tape-strangling-builders/story-fni6uo1m-1226811788837

and since you mightn't have a subscription to The Oz -

"A REFRIGERATOR lightbulb retailing for about $3 at a hardware store ended up costing a far north Queensland state school almost $500 after Queensland's Public Works Department sent an electrician to install it in a teacher's government-owned home.

Doomadgee State School, on the Gulf of Carpentaria, was billed $200 for labour alone after the teacher was told workplace health and safety regulations prevented any staff member from buying and replacing the bulb themselves, The Australian understands.

Queensland Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek yesterday ordered an internal investigation into the bill, saying over-the-top red tape was adding to the spiralling financial costs of delivering services in remote areas of Queensland. The probe was launched after the internal document was leaked, according to sources, in a bid to expose waste and duplication of state and commonwealth services in some of the state's remote communities.

Mr Langbroek said Queensland's teachers and principals were beset with "crazy rules" that included a requirement that a school hire an outside contractor to retrieve a ball in the playground if it became lodged (for instance, in a tree branch) at a level of 1.8m or higher. "This is the sort of red tape that needs to end," he said. "It's crazy."

and don't I know it with a teacher missus. This country has completely lost the plot.
There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

That red tape is nothing when compared to the Offshore Oil and Gas industry.
This industry is in a super league of their own when it comes to ridiculous red tape crap for safety works. My head hurts just thinking about it...........

We are currently sitting through our annual induction.

Christ, it is all common sense, but, unfortunately, we do this so dick heads can get through the day with out sticking a knife in toasters.

Yep, to all of the above, including prodigyrf, who I may have disagreed with once or twice in the past!

As a WHS practitioner, the common sense approach is often out of bounds in some workplaces.

Many self solve issues can be accommodated by a simple " take 5 " approach. Unfortunately many workplaces are still struggling with this.

The KISS solution still applies with me.

X2

I've just spent 18 months doing some building upgrades at a refinery.  understandably they have some very strict safety policies, given the present dangers in the plant.  HOWEVER!  their head office which is miles away from the refinery has even stricter procedures for contractors.  Over 2 hours to hang 2 pictures on a wall I kid you not...  Then they sook over the bill regarding labour costs!

Yep its all sh*ts n giggles at my work too, Just love having the law laid on us about  how things are to be done, by a shiela in a jacket /  skirt and high heels, with threats of dire consequences and dismisal etc if procedures / safety arnt followed  .... All this is after she got you to write up the procedures on how to operate and safety requirements of the equiptement in the first place ...

"unfortunately, we do this so dick heads can get through the day with out sticking a knife in toasters"
I've always believed in the saying "Danger eliminates stupid people". Unfortunately now, the danger is being eliminated, allowing stupid people to survive and breed more stupid people. Eventually we will be overtaken by stupid people.

Seen a poster once with,  " a shiela in a jacket /  skirt and high heels" and the caption  ...  I have no idea how to do your job, but my book says you are doing it wrong .
