I have to find another dashcam.
The one we have keeps playing up.
When the SD card is full, it stop recording, the loop function doesn't work.
Regularly it freezes at start up.

Hi,

Check out   Dash Cam Talk Forum:  https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/

Lots of people talking about all makes of Dash Cams, there are sections for many different dash cams, lots of helpful people there.

Could be a bad memory card, try re formatting using the camera menu format option.

Check the file length is set to 5 minutes or there abouts,  make sure looping is set on.

Thanks Ray,
I have formatted the SDcard using the camera format and using the suggested program mentioned on dashcamtalk.
Didn't help.
I have switch from 1 minute to 3 minutes and 5 minutes with no luck.
Looping is on.

After reading through all your reviews, I have just bought one of the iTronics 100HD dash cams off eBay. The Asutralian online stores are selling for around the $350 mark but I got this one from Korea. Advertised for $179 USD ($235 AUD) but I made them an offer of $145 USD ($190 AUD) which was accepted and also included free shipping. Contacted AAMI insurance but they say it doesn't get me any discount unfortunately but at least I have a bit more peace of mind now in case something does happen and there are conflicting stories. Link to the eBay item below:

so, how are you guys wiring these cameras to the vehicles?

to the vehicle battery or via the cigarette plug?

any advantage to permanent wiring?

I've got a Blackvue 500, looking at changing to the dual camera 650G and using the wifi remote viewing ability to use it as a rear view camera without installing another monitor to clutter up my dash.   I use my iPhone/tablet in a cradle as a nav tool.

Currently direct to cigarette plug. I'll get round to wiring it to my Aux battery one day.  You could look at The Power Magic Pro to hard wire and protect your start battery. http://www.blackvue.com/en/contents/sub1.asp?idx=13

To power up a uniden unit I have I fitted a ciggy outlet besides the transmission tunnel on ignition feed.
There are power supply units that let them keep recording until a preset low battery level is activated.

Yes mate. Permanent wiring of the itronics gives you the use of the shock sensor - ie it wakes the unit up if it senses movement in the vehicle and starts recording.

Also records if motion is detected, in its field of view of course.

You need to buy an additional wiring loom

I bought the Vico Victron Marcus 4, with GPS module and Polorising filter, 64gb card gives 20 hours of recording in 5 min files and then loops, 720-2530 resolution with option of 30 fps or 60 fps, 160 degree view, excellent quality but not cheap

I still can't see the problem.... If they test drive my vehicle in a manner appropriate for a road test, then they would have nothing to worry about....

There are examples of service mechanics abusing cars, far beyond anything reasonable for a standard service, breaking multiple traffic rules, even to the point of getting caught by the Po Po, and having the car impounded for 'hoon driving'...

If the service centre are acting in a professional manner, it shouldn't matter who is watching, be it recorded or actual observation...

If I went to your workplace or home and set up a camera without you knowledge recording video and audio and left it recording all day, how would you feel?  Have nothing to hide but don't mind a private conversation being in the hands of an unknown person to be given to the public for whatever reason.  I see it as a boss protecting the privacy of his work place.

Just trying to get my head around this, why is it any different from the stealership having cameras in the office/showroom when you come in to buy something/book your car in for a service etc.
Does it only legally work one way?

Private property.

In a public place you can use you dash cam no worries.

You go into or onto someone else's private property and you are going to need their permission for you to record them.  If they give you permission to record, no worries, if they refuse, turn it off or you can be committing an offence. Same if you do not ask and you keep recording you can be committing an offence.

As for business having CCTV everywhere, it is their place and they can do what they like.  Also it only records video so your private conversation is not recorded.

Same way at your house you can set up CCTV as part of a security system.  It is your place, you do not have to tell anyone.

I'm sort of on the dealers side with this one.  Imagine a stranger came into your workplace and set up a camera on you, then returned at the end of the day and took it it away.  Now whether you've done anything wrong, who knows where that footage is going to end up?

mate of mine had vehicle tracking his GU as his company sold it

when it went in for warranty work at a dealer, they told him they took it for an extensive drive and found nothing
he showed them the print out showing they went to the post office and back then went elsewhere.. :D

Mine is there mostly to provide evidence in case of a crash or record days out, not to check up on people.

Lucky my mechanics don't care, and neither do I as I trust them. I've never bothered or had reason to check the footage.

It is plugged into the cig socket. It would be easy to unplug if they wanted, either there, or at the unit. I've deliberately left the start-up sound on so its not as if they aren't aware of it.

Same.

In my opinion, Any place that needs to post a notice like this has trust issues that are likely warranted. Ie they have been caught out doing something and it has bitten them.
These dash cams only record sound inside the cabin, so unless you say something stupid while in the vehicle, it's only going to record video of external events. Hardly a breach of any laws or workplace privacy.
I have no problem with my staff with customers dash cams - I would welcome any customer that can show me inappropriate behaviour from any of our staff whilst working on, or driving, their vehicles.

Same here, very happy with it. All my customers walk away sheepishly when I tell them they were filmed committing the traffic offence.
