Decisions.... Decisions
« on: August 23, 2013, 03:05:18 PM »
Well working weekends for the last 25 years in retail and 7 and half years in realestate, I have a job offer of becoming a Body Corp manager working Mon to Friday 9.00 to 5.00 and no weekends.

A regular income, holiday pay, sick pay (although very rarely take sickies) and weekends. I am spending a weekend at a resort with my partner Penny, my birthday present, and will discuss the advantages of the new offer.

No more stress chasing an income and wondering when my next pay is coming in, no more long hours, no more pressure and get to catch up with my kids more. The money is a little less but my health and well being is worth alot more.  ;D

At 52 next Thursday, time to slow down and enjoy life and go camping on weekends.

I can see alot of  will be consumed this weekend.

Mark, I may have misunderstood, but Mon to Sat with no weekends.

I know I treat Friday as a weekend, but most normal people include Sat???

That aside, I am "temporarily" on a 38 hour wages job.
This is so I can pick my kids up from school at 3:30pm everyday as the boss (assistant principal) has gone back full time.

As much as I keep telling myself I'm going back, I know now I never will........
No stress, paid every week, and problems are left at the job never taken home.
If only I could get the same, but in a gov dept, I'd be set.

You won't regret it. Go for it.

Cheers, Happy Birthday and good luck,
Brian

I have been fortunate not too have to work weekends for a long time (over 20 years) and I am now looking to get into an environment where weekend work is almost certain.

Good luck with the new role, sounds like everything is better except the pay, and people get too hung up on the money side of things. I have taken cuts in several jobs to get a better quality of life.

Good luck mate. At the end of the day, you need to enjoy life and if this is what will help you achieve that quality of life then go for it. Money isn't everything, but does help.....:-)

Great minds think alike  ;D ,  as you know Mark I too am 52 years old/young and have decided to "taper" a bit. We work Monday to Thursday and have a three day weekend every weekend........ now we could still have our foot on the go pedal but life is too short, and to the best of my knowledge no one ever lay on their death bed and said " gee I'm glad I did that overtime".

Go for it mate, Penny's a cool lady and the more time you spend together the happier you both will be.

If you thought dealing with customers in retail is a barrel of laughs then,
Have fun dealing with residents as a body corp manager.

No, I have not been one, but I have a few body corp customers.
And frankly I wouldn't wish some of the residents on my MIL.

Be very careful ,Forrest.

Happy birthday for next Thursday, Mark...

A couple of years ago Kay and I decided that we'd set some time aside for us.....good holidays, more long weekends etc.
It really hasn't made that big a difference to the bottom line, but we feel much better for it.

Good luck with your decision.

I deal with them on the real estate side telling them their unit is worth half the price to what they paid years ago. Yes dealing with the public is fun but years doing it I have heard and been through it all.
I just drink more  ;D

Good luck mate. In my experience, not working weekends is an often understated bonus. I worked weekends and nightshifts for a long time and now cant understand why i did it for so long.

I say go for it and good luck to you.

We decided a couple of years ago that the second half of our life is about our kids and us.

No worrying about how we look, we dont need the best house, new cars, best of every material possession.
We need a good quality of life, happy well loved  kids, holidays, no stress, no long working hours, being content with the little we own, all that sort of thing :)

Working long hours and missing my kids growing up just to keep banks wealthy so we can look better is a thing of the past, that much i am certain of.

Not a virus, not a re-install, not a format, not an issue since 2011..once you go mac you never go back

Mate so true.  :cup:

I am far from wealthy but I have a beautiful supportive partner, great kids , love my 4wd driving , enjoy organising trips and camping with great friends . Being in real estate I have seen so many people go to the wall and to me life is about living and enjoying what we have.

If its time, it time.

On the face of it BC Management looks like a cross between being a book keeper and a secretary but I know a few guys doing it these days and they reckon its a bit of a pi$$er dealing with the dickheads, as long as you dont push too hard.

The idea of a stable income does sound appealing after the "live by the sword die by the sword" situation that selling anything on a commission basis brings.

Best of luck with the change, if you do decide.

Cheers Nomad.
