I use the Ryobi One +, with impact sockets......

Works well.

I'm sure the Makita would work better !

Happy with the Ryobi One+ gear, would be even more happier with the Makita gear.....!!

With 230nm of torque you will have no problem, we use them at work to hold up building so you should be fine. I will be purchasing one in the next couple of months to add to my already large collection of tools

X2 but again makita would probably last longer.

No troubles with Prado wheel nuts etc

They work well
We use these at work good unit
Have the 1/2 and 3/4 drive
the 3/4 drive will probably shear the studs off

They do wheel nuts with ease.  Better than the cheap air impact guns.

The 1/4" pozidrive impact drivers however don't quite have the guts.

look at the torque when looking for impact wrenches.. i think the good air powered wrenches are 600? nm


using the ryobi or the makita u will need to loosen the wheel nuts and tighten them with a breaker bar or using the correct method, like a torque wrench to tighten them correctly..

i have a cheap GMC air impact wrench and its about the same torque as the ryobi and makitas mentioned above.. and yes, most of the time i have to use  breaker bar to loosen the nuts then i wiz them off with the gmc.. much quicker..

They are pretty good D4 I've used them a few times and have some decent grunt. Only thing I found was the battery didn't last too long and once its starts to pack up, the torque drops significantly  so make sure you have a spare handy :cheers:

I find the Ryobi undoes them OK. When refitting, I use a wheel brace to do the final tension.

If you use a breaker bar to tighten them, how do you get them undone on the side of the road...??

Over-tightened wheel nuts are unnecessary, and are a pain in the rectum.......

i dont use extreme force, and i actually ticked off a mate for over doing his up way too tight..


i use a breaker bar but i use it in the lifting side and not pushing down that way it doesnt over tighten. also i have been doing it for years so i dont over tighten the nuts.

i have a ufixit wheel wrench that i take offroading now, use to take the breaker bar..

but i also use to have a hammer that i had a pipe welded on that i use to extend the socket handle.. i used that method for years to undo or tighten nuts..


but no i never over tighten my wheel nuts.

Definitely no need for a breaker bar for the Makita.  Unless you do the nuts up to the point of almost stripping!

umm just to let you know again, NO i do not over tighten my wheel nuts..

using the bar is just so i can get a feel of how tight the nuts are, where if you use the impact wrench you are not always 100% sure if the nut is up correctly..

most of the time my impact wrench can undo my wheel nuts when i am taking a wheel off..


remember its a cheap weak GMC which sounds like it has way less torque to the makita and ryobi cordless impact wrenches.

Sorry Peter, I wasn't trying to imply you over tighten.  Just pointing out that unless the nuts are done up to stupid tight, the Makita is up to the task. :cheers:

I got the Ryobi one+ as well. Works great on all the trailers. I got the One+ because I had a lot of the Ryobi stuff already for camping (18v chainsaw, fan, radio, air compressor, torch, dust buster) and they all take the same battery.

I've use the impact wrench on wheel nuts, and the bolts that hold on the points on my 14 run seeder. I was hoping to just break off the bolts but it actually got the nut off (not sure how, I didn't think there was thread on the end of the bolt  ???). It seems to be perfect for me as its only the odd job here and there. Like most things, for industrial applications can't go past a Makita or similar industrial brand.

Let us know what you end up with D4D and let me know how it goes.  :cheers:

How noisy are these cordless wrenches??  i have one of the first 12 volt cig plug in impact wrench and its slow and very noisy.
