The sad thing is that it is no different to any sport where BIG $$$ have got involved.
Cricket, Football (all codes), Motor Racing Cycling, Yachting, etc, etc....

Probably the least affected has been golf.
It is no longer about the sport, competition and the fans it is ALL about the money.

Any form of motorsport that uses the start line as the finish line again, and again and again, is boring as bat sh!t. Bathurst for eg, why do you need to cross the finish line 161 times? It does not matter if you cross that line first for 160 laps, you just have to do it on the 161'st lap. How does that work ???? It's like tennis. Back, forth, back, forth, ball goes out, you lose, simple. But no, do it again, and again, for hours on end ?? Boring.

Two cars or bikes, one start line, one finish line, 8 seconds or less later and you have a winner. Loser goes home, winner goes to the next round. Simple.

Yes, I am but a mere simple man with a short attention span, and that's why I love Drag Racing !!

Shane.

With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

A lot of that 114,000 would have been V8 fans too, also a lot go just for the spectical of the event, so not a true comparison really.
I'd be interested to see how many of each are PAYING people through the gates... The amount they give away these days to make F1 or supertaxi's look full is mad...

Also, does that amount include family and friends of the participants and sponcers, which would get the free tickets you speak of Bruce and it would be interesting to know how many that are gien away, it's a pretty big circus and a lot come from overseas just to rub shoulders with the rich and famous.

Errrrr. Right. So that makes the F1 better.

Clipsal 500 2012
"Today’s (Sunday March 4) attendance was 82,100"

Melbourne Grand Prix 2012
"An estimated crowd of 114,900 filed through the gates yesterday"

Of course you could argue that it's the 4 day figures that count. But you wouldn't want to do that either. About 100,000 more at the F1.
 >:D

Your talking about 2 differant venues the clipsal 500 crowd was up on the f1 crowd at the same venue

got to say that on the tele it loses the sound and smell
There is something to being there live and feeling ,smelling and hearing the cars as  they go around the track
The tele also takes away the speed sensation...not only for F1 but v8's ...top fuellers..etc etc....
I went to an air show the other year and i got goose bumps as 5  or 6 F18 fighter jets flew past at what seemd like a few hundered feet....... Watch that on the box and u would fall asleep

I'd love to go to an F1 event. I feel that car racing of most types has lost some of it's appeal. I love WRC, but the manufacturers have all pulled out, which reduces the mix of vehicles.

GP bikes still have some fun, but at the speeds they're all going even 0.01 of a second gap is pretty big.

That's the best part about bike racing Jules, unlike the cars, the closer the lap times the more passing you get in the bikes, because they have more room.

I've been to the F1 GP in Adelaide, ho hum I thought, you can't see anything >:( even with a grandstand seat, the view is minimal.

But even MotoGP has lost it with 2-3 teams with a chance, the rest there to make it up.
Moto2 is where its at - controlled engines... All CBR600 donks from memory

Moto3 also has a possibility to be close racing... although 250 4 strokes dont excite me much, make em 400's.... :)

You're right about overtaking opportunities. That was what was so good about Group C(?) racing, they bangewd and barged each other and made room  8). Maybe the tracks need to be redesigned to encourage more overtaking?

Each to his own, as they say, but I for one am a big fan of F1. Have been for 20 years now, and been to every Oz GP in that time. For me, its the technical aspect. These cars are unbelievable. A 2.4 litre V8 revving at 18000 RPM and producing close to 800 bhp, strapped to the back of a car that weighs less than my CT. Awesome stuff!! Yesterday's was a great race, and now we have 2 Aussies on the grid to cheer on.

BigJules, how about you join me at next years GP? Bring your favourite camp chair, we'll set up on Brocky's Hill, share some bevvies and enjoy the spectacle. I guarantee you, the moment you see and hear these cars for yourself, you'll be hooked ;D

I love the F1 Grand Prix. Keeps all the rev head hooligans in the city so the bush is nice and peaceful for a change and not overcrowded. We went to Rubicon valley and it was sensational. Just a handful of campers.

As for the race once it became all about the electronics and computers and not the driver skill it lost me.

Sounds good Matt. This year it coincided with the birthdays of both my daughters, and my anniversary, so a bit hard to get daddy time in March.

Baz.

I spent most of the f1 races in Adelaide working on the international media stand on 1st corner (sometimes work is hard!)
best you could understand was the car numbers on the tower on top of the bridge
have now got a much better seat at the clipsal, in pit straight, complete with the big screen and complete veiw of the pits

Absolutely. That Sauber is bloody quick car, Perez would've won if he didn't throw a wheel onto the grass. Good to see Williams doing well too.  Shaping up to be a good season.

Best race i have watched in years. I believe this year with the minor rule changes and car changes they have made it is more about the driver again which is the way it should be bring on the next round.
It was also great to see Vetel having some good luck and Webber finishing in front of him again.
Have to congratulate Perez that was an awesome drive.
