Hi Wilco,
I know, I know, I'm biased, but my D4D Prado gives me 1,000 klms from a full tank (with camper trailer in tow), has easily removable third row seats (eight seats for around town kiddie-shuttling, cavernous storage when they're removed and we're off camping) and I've found that with my KK's extended draw bar, I am able to get into the rear with relative ease (ie: rear door two-thirds open).
I couldn't read what budget you're working towards, but I'd hold off on spending further big $ on the Surf if you're not planning on keeping it for the long term and wait until a plum D4D 120 comes onto the scene... that said, patience / waiting are not part of my vocabulary either so I am being quite hypocrytical
Happy to waive my standard $0.02 peanut gallery fee as a way of contributing to your cause
Cheers,
Alchemist
