Guys any idea of the costs of getting a MR licence and what is involved

Forget MR go HR or HC  more scope for work, not sure what the costs actually are now days, but in most cases in now done on a compatencey base assesment.

My eldest son just got his and went to go to a truck driving school for lessons who also administered the test. The lessons were also a part of the evaluation process. I will check with him and let you know if it is any different. He went straight for a HR, more useful.

i got mine recently and it cost me $800 for a one day course.
all depends on if your confident that you can drive them.
i spent 8 hours with instructor,the last 1 1\2 hrs was the test part of the day.i had to drive for that period with no mistakes at all.
other assessments were done during the day such as parking,reversing and pre start checks.
always nerve wracking when you have someone sitting beside you but not that hard.
only other costs were for rta book and then paying for licence upgrade.
i went for MR as it was only one day, HR and HC were done over 2 days and the job i had only required MR.
if you have more time then probably worth going for the higher one.

get a job with state transit they pay for the lot and pay you as well  , then leave like everyone else dose

i got my hc last year i used 1 of our truck nd dogs and got a training group who came up on a sunday  drove for 8 hours then 1 hour assesment

Hey James, check it out first, but from memory when I got mine it was possible to go straight from C to HR, but not straight to HC. Like others have suggested, may be an idea to go straight to the higher class than MR. Done mine as a day coarse as well, compantancy based, was assessed as the day went on then done a final drive at the end.
   Think mine was about $500-600 but that was 10 years ago, so realy doesn't help now.

Go for the HR, then you wont have to upgrade later, unless your planning on going for HC later, then you'll have to redo it anyway.
Got my HR licence about 10 yrs ago too, about as soon as could after coming off my P's, although mine costed a bit more since I had to hire their truck to as well, all up I think it was about $1000-1200 for a few lessons around their track, out and about, and the test. It was good because the one I did took you through securing your loads properly as well.

Going to make some calls to places around the Sutho area tomorrow, looks like $800 for the MR is standard.

Took me 4yrs to get my HC licence, I had to hold my MR (single axle ridgid) then HR (twin axle Ridgid), then single axle trailer artic for 12mths each before I could go for my HC multi axle licence.

There's an old saying, an old instructor told me;

G'day folks
One of my co workers got his MR a year or two back , he missed gears,bounced over the inside of a round a bout and clipped the gutter, in a truck with a full syncro box power steering, short wheel base single drive tipper, young lady assessor was very forgiving, my suggestion go for your test in Lismore and hope you get the same assessor, ( I will not let him drive while I am in a vehicle with him) otherwise a nice enough bloke.

What do you need MR for? Here in SA I went straight from car to HC and then straight to the mines. Cost me about $1200 all up.

If you have the time to spare, join your local Rural Fire Brigade.
Not only are you exempt from all cost - except the cost of the license itself when you pass - but you also get to use their vehicle, & your community gets another body to help them when in trouble

i got mine recently in SA did 3 lessons of 2 hrs, not difficult $75/ph
