We are leaving Townsville in the morning for Mt Isa. Hope averyone stays safe.

graylyn

Yes, be safe everyone.  I am going to my son's place at Nebo, 120k west of here.  If the storm follows it's projected path we will still feel some effects from it but they certainly won't be as bad as if I stayed here.

See you on the road, Symon

I cannot get over the size of this the perfect cyclone as the water temperature is ideal as is everything else for it to get bigger.

Jim.

Hi all,

Its good to see that Qld has had plenty of warning on this one.

Fellow swaggers affected by Yasi, stay safe and keep your heads down.

Our thoughts are with you all,

Jim & Kerrie

Good luck you guys, your going need it for this one. Left me scratching my head wondering when we are going to get a big one over here, havent had a decent one for a while, last direct hit (closest that I've been through) was cyclone clare - http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/history/wa/clare.shtml

Symon

Looks like it is tracking more north now... look at the size of the watch zone...

I can just see what our shops would look like with a cyclone like that brewing - totally empty  ;D Must be worse over there with more population in the towns. Does QLD use an alert system like we do over here in the north west?

So it looks like we can blame the french for this....

Stay safe everyone. This is certainly a monster. Still to early for a positive track but this will be felt wide and far.

No shanegtr we don't as far as I know, there has been some talk about it but it hasn't happened.

They are now worried about the storm surge tomorrow night as it could come in on the top of a large high tide, Cairns 2.4m at 8.52pm and 3.0m on Thursday 9.38am.

If anyone has to evacuate before the storm, and you have nowhere to go you are welcome up here, although after Larry I can't say I wont get the affects of the cyclone, at least I wont get any storm surge at 1000m.

:-[ Umm, who took over the steering while I slept?  Scary is reading the little box on the Typhoon sheet, sustained wind at 125 knots gust to 150 knots mmmm the numbers just keep going up  >:(
Oh well better do a better cleanup, winds are possible from tonight...
Not so funny is it looks like still being at least a Cat 1 out at Richmond...
Least I'll get a holiday from tomorrow now  ;D

What did you guys in QLD do wrong to get all this happening at the one time , i suppose you only have to clean up once .  Stay Safe  lets talk on the other side of this .

We are in the process of securing properties, cancelling open homes and removing signs. There is uncertainty of where it will cross but it looks like we will get hit hard.

There is already panic buying in the shops and we expect power to be out for a number of days.

There is talk it may develop onto a Cat 5.

It looks like making landfall wed afternoon which is better than hitting at night.

It wasn't me, but I'd like to have a talk to whoever it was too!  ;D

I'll tell you what, it's got everyone here at work in a flap this morning. But then again, it doesn't take much to get this mob panicking, I've got to admit. One of the girls is telling everyone that they'd better go home now and hide.

It's certainly looking like it will be a wild couple of days. We'll be fuelling up the cars and securing the house tonight. Have already filled the tank on the camper, and have the ARB fridge cooling down on 240V in case we need it.

Nothing really more that we can do now, other than sit around and wait. I don't think my neighbour will need to worry about having to move the big pile of mulch on his driveway anymore, somehow. I think he'll be move concerned about fishing most of it out of his pool...

Thanks!
Matto :)

It's your fault Paul, I thought you were looking after it while I had a sleep last night.

Don't go blowing every thing away will you. We plan to be there for a while this year starting at Cairns before buying up Cooktown way or in between would rather see it standing than not.
