We are looking at Portaloo's. Mostly only 2 people using it.  What is a good brand? Does anyone have recommendations for or against different types?.

Hairs

We purchased an Aldi one($79 I think from memory) years ago. No idea what they are worth now.
Hardly use it, still works as it should.
We buy the from our local camping store the chemicals when we do need them.

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)

Jeepers Creepers

Most of 'em are fairly ok I think.

Pays to empty 'em long before they are full...  :D

The chances of some Coco Pops and chocolate milk on ya is much higher when they're full during the dump and run..

Just like a chocolate milkshake, only smelly.
I DON'T CARE HOW NICE THE HAND SOAP SMELLS.....

You should never walk out of the public toilets sniffing your fingers.

We had a Thetford portaloo when he had the CT, & which we used once just tenting & it was fine.

Used the various chemicals to start, then changed over to Aldi nappysan & it worked just as well, & much cheaper! 8)

We use a thetford in our camper trailer. Wife had bowel surgery earlier this year and can still get caught short. It has been wonderful not always cover on the road in the bush so we drop it between the car & trailer hasn't got caught yet  ;D Only thing there is a higher one available and wish we had got that one, handy as you get older. we use Napisan in the flush tank & haven't had any problems to date.

We have 2 x Thetford Porta potti's. 1 fits through the side hatch in the camper (145) has it's own waterproof travel bag, although we have never had any issues.  The slightly larger 165 lives on our boat.  Holding tanks are interchangeable and size relates to holding tank capacity.  Never had a problem with emptying, just be careful .... we use the green chemical and clean the holding tanks (purple liquid) about every 12 months.  We find it easier to just use an old milk bottle to hold the flush water rather than top tank.  Use less water to flush and less weight to move if flush water unused during stay.  Depending on nature of 'visit', Line the bowl with paper, keeps slide area clean and allows solids to drop into holding tank easily and cleaner using less flush water.

Maybe you need a port-a-loo stand ...

We have both a Thetford and a cheaper version (the type most places cell under their in house brand names) The Thetford is better made, out of a shinier/easier to clean plastic, but the cheaper one works just fine as well.
The main difference is when emptying, the Thetford has a tube to tip out of when emptying, this makes it a bit easier to control when tipping it out and therefore greatly reduces the chances of splashback, especially if you are emptying into a toilet. The trade-off though is as it restricts the flow a bit, you sometimes might need a number of goes rinsing out with water to get any fresh clumps of toilet paper to actually come out, whereas the cheaper generic ones have a much hole in the side and no restrictions so everything comes out much more easily.
Both work just fine, I think the Thetford one is better, but whether it is worth the extra $$$ is probably the question, and that will change from person to person.

We bought the Aldi one several years ago and only just used it, one of the reasons we decided to start with the cheaper option. This camping trip, we wanted to stay away from common areas in campgrounds as much as possible, so finally used it along with a Joolca hottap. Worked without any issues, sodium percarbonate (Nappisan generic) worked fine. There really was no smell (a drop or two of eucalyptus oil was used for spousal assurance), a spray of cooking oil on the pan at setup keep the skid marks at bay, but at the danger of too much info, it tends to be a straight drop anyway. The height of the Aldi portaloo was good. Friends have gone to one of the larger Thetfords for comfort. So depends on where you want to store it and the height you'd like for comfort or a stand as per KathyL. I have emptied cassettes with the extension and it is easier to empty without splashing yourself, but I think if you empty the tank when half-full it should be ok, that's certainly the note-to-self I've come away with after the trip. Also half-full means you can give it a shake to break up the chuncky bits. If you have the space and are going to use one, I'd also suggest a double shower/toilet tent.

We have a Thetford 365 as it is about the same height as a normal toilet so it makes sitting down a lot easier.

We use the Thetford Toilet Porta Potti Excellence, it is very much like the standard toilet to use.
