We've got mates who are over there on the fire from here, and then another 2 fires east of us as well... oh, and another 2 south of the Tingha fire...

Not good - I worked from home today as I don't trust some of the local kids not to do their own HR burn, and it's easier to keep an eye on things from home!

Scary part of the Tingha Fire is it is heading toward Mt Topper State Forest which has a large section of planted pine.  This weather it will go off like a bomb.  We have good friends the other side of the Mt Topper.

Afternoon today, 3 little fires lit by some of the locals... only one striker crew left in town, so many runs back and forth to the hydrant according to the missus....

Tingha is an interesting place; one of the few with common grazing in the town boundaries. On the whole, not a wealthy town though (http://quickstats.censusdata.abs.gov.au/census_services/getproduct/census/2016/quickstat/SSC13874?opendocument), a fair bit of depravation.... low education attainment, 25% ATSI population, low incomes and just not that great.... One of the few times it's made it in the news really...

Tingha, may not be much of a town as such, has a wealth of history and lot of uniqueness for no important reason.  Was home and work for 12 and half years and the place our kids first grew up in.  It holds a lot of memories for us only but from that time we have a few dear friends there.

From the RFS Fires Near Me the fire appears to be heading for Green Valley Farm.  So here have been there.

See what tomorrow brings.

Yea I like those small country towns caught in a time warp - still with the general store selling everything (like a hub of the town) making the worlds best hamburgers, and really friendly locals who are probably doin it tough

Change of wind and easing weather has seemed to help in the fight of the bushfires.

A bush fire is burning in the Tingha, Old Mill and Stanborough area. The fire has burnt more than 18,100ha and is out of control.

Current Situation

Gilgai Firefighters are working on the eastern side of Gilgai in the vicinity of the Inverell Airport and Ponds Creek area. Crews are working to slow the spread of the fire, assisted by aircraft.

Old Mill Crews are conducting backburns on the eastern side of Old Mill. This will extend to Old Armidale Road. There will be an increase in fire activity and smoke in the area while these burns are undertaken.

There is a reduced threat to properties. Firefighters continue to work with landholders in the area.

The wind change looks to have spared Green Valley Farm, I am sure the Stewart Family would be breathing easier.

There has been loss of some houses and other buildings but at this stage no loss of life.

Cheers
