USA dual cabs?

Why is it that OZ doesnt get any of the big dual cab utes from the states, especially the jap brands like the Nissan Titan and Toyota Tacoma?  They seem to be about patrol size but in a dual cab.

Given that dual cabs have stolen a lot of sales from large cars you would think it viable.  It cant be the left hand drive issue could it, seeing as Dodge import some god ugly things like the Journey in RHD.

Any ideas?

We're not fat enough yet and fit in the current vehicles.... oh hold on, i think we are fatter than americans now. Hmmm. Don't know.

Most of them are only engineered in petrol I believe, and we seem to prefer diesels these days. Also I'd say that our market just isn't big enough to support the development required to make them RHD.

Might be right on the petrol thing.  Though I reckon the smile on your dial of a 5.7l  381hp Toyota Tundra would be sweet.  Almost as much bang as my prado  :'(

We originally looked at getting the Toyota Tundra but at the time no one had the ability to convert them to right hand drive. When we asked of Toyota if they were going to import them, the answer was that because the vehicle is produced in the US and only in LHD, there were no plans to make them RHD. Their factories are only geared up for LHD.

Whilst that sounded like a good excuse at the time, what doesn't make sense about that is that we must have been able to produce the Holden Monaro in LHD for the US market, so how hard is it to change the factory to do so?

Ultimately, I think its the small market that Australia is in comparison with the US.

I don't know how you can buy a new F250 in Australia at all as I am of the understanding that Ford is no longer importing these, which were coming from their Brazilian factory.

Being an owner of an American vehicle, you tend to hear this talk from your friendly parts suppliers and vehicle purchasers... ;D

Look how long the Holden crewman lasted . Good idea but once the demand slowed it was gone . Sad because those that have them would go again but the demand wasnt there to maitain the range  :'(

I think I would rather have a F650 6 door pick up  If your going big then get on with it . Go real big  :cheers:

I read that next years Ford Ranger is only 10% smaller than the current F150 so there's no plans to bring back the F150 at this stage.
