Discussing this over a beer last night, one of my mates reckons a group of blokes installed it against council permission after the last sign was so damaged? and it's stayed there ever since? Anyone heard this or different? I'd love to know/read about it if it's the truth - bloody Australian legends!! I say  (although I would never encourage breaking the law)  ;D :police: ;D

Remember seeing photos on a forum years ago of the blokes doing it. Possibly 4wd action forum.

But basically was a replacement for one that was there and was placed further north than where it was.

Yeah I remember reading a couple of years ago in 4wd Action that it had been knocked off, so some guys made up a new one and installed it themselves.

It's been going missing for over 30 years.
Some blokes I used to play football with in the early 80's souvinered the 1984 version of it on their round Australia trip.
The one which was up there in early July this year certainly looked pretty professionally made.

selfish knobs like those guys Shit me big time, I feel sorry for the people that arrived there after they had stolen the sign wanting a pic at it, but couldn't get one due to their actions.
