Bought a couple new 22L green Proquip water jerry cans for upcoming sojourn, didn't bother to open them up for awhile and when we did ... oh man, must smell like a French brothel would smell...
We've soaked them  in a baking soda/water mix then vinegar/water and then with a couple drops of bleach and water.  No improvement and even just let them sit with just old water.  Each treatment lasted days, water was over a week.

The perfume smell is obnoxious still.  These are suppose to HDPE and made here.

The store help looked like a roo in headlights when asked about the smell and how to remove it.

Any suggestions? Tx.

                              G'Day Husky,
I don't know if this will help but i used this on my CT water tank and when i used to home brew this is what i used it's called Sodium Metabisulphite and is available at Woolies in home brew section or brew shops or chemists.......I hope this solves your problem
                                                          Cheers Tracker.

Okay, thanks, know the compound well, I have some at home for brewing along with Potassium Metabisulfide for wine.
