I want to hang our kayaks from under the carport. Looking for simple yet effective way of hanging them that makes it easy to release/lower - my carport is pretty high and it would be cool to be able to just lower them direct onto the camper or cruiser. I am guessing there are plenty already doing it so there is no use reinventing the wheel and spending hours pondering over ropes, pulleys, pipe racks and the like when I can just tap into the brains trust here.

Post up how you do yours.

I like the hoist GG, just need to find some appropriate pulleys and make a few blocks. Not sure I can justify $45 a hit when I have plenty of rope on hand. Maybe I can turn up a few wooden pulleys?

To expand this, what is the best way to transport the kayak?
We have them either up side down on the CT or up side down on the car, no kayak holders.
Are these holders better for the kayak?
The issue I have when I load the Hobie on the car with the 2 roof bars, I can't open the tail gate anymore as I have the dust deflector.

As for storage i have just 2 rope loops coming down from the roof of the car port. I have threaded a bicycle tube through the ropes to grip the kayak. To get on the car i simply support the rear of the kayak with one hand remove the rope loop lowe it to the roof rack then do the same to the front. The bicycle tube give it enought grip to stay when held by 1 rope

I found when travelling upside down on the roof racks as i have 2 and they stack together i like them on the car cause when they are on the camper i have to transfer them to the car half the time anyway as the water may not be near the camp site

Pulley system left ours hanging too low. The attempt at a single rope pulley system left one end lifting/lowering quicker than the other and kept needing adjustments.

Now I Just use a rope with a loop in it now. Loop goes over the grab handle, then over the hook in the roof. It's a bit fiddly as I need to hoist one end up half way, go to the other end and repeat. Simple but effective.

I just went to bunnings, bought 2 pullys and a mechanical hand winch and fabricated a lightwieght frame to support both
kayaks and a length of pulley cord and it works fine ;D

I've just bought a kayak and had to store above cruiser in the garage. . Rigged up system above the cruiser so can lower onto when we want to use. Used 5 snatch blocks rigged 1 at the front and 2 at the back then reeved rope through so it lifts in one go.

Proudy, I would support the center of the kayak to prevent sagging over time.
It is now hanging on the two outer points of the kayak.

Aldi sell bike pulley systems for about $10. I use them for my kayaks and they look exactly the same as the first link from ebay, just without the straps
Had I change them a bit, so they weren't as long

Will get a photo if I get a chance

These are the pics of mine. I removed the double hook setup and removed one of the hooks.  Gave it a bend and bolted it back onto the pulley. This saved about 4" in height. I made a loop from the excess rope that goes through the scupper holes. I wouldn't use the end of the kayak or it will Lilley bend over time.
