New family member Benny the greyhound
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:50:21 PM »
Hi everybody I would like to introduce the new member to our family, his name is Benny and he is 5 we adopted him from  a group called friends of the hound. He never raced and was one of the dogs they rescued from a mass 19 dog rescue where they were kept in paddocks with no care or shelter. Benny has some very poorly healed scars and yet I have never met a dog with such a great temprament (? Spelling) or a dog as lazy. He is loving pet life and being an inside dog and follows us from room to room. We hope to take him out camping soon and the recent camping with dogs thread will be very helpful. Any how here are some photos.

Hi Benny.
Greyhounds would rather sit on the couch than race.
Great pets.
Cheers.

My brother in laws partner has an ex racing greyhound.  Unfortunately it didnt come with a % of its winnings, which were in the tens of thousands of $$.

It is one of the most docile dogs I have ever met, and they love it.

Its a pity that only a small % of ex racing hounds end up in similar circumstances.  Well done for taking it on.

I never had much time for greyhounds. Until I met a couple. Lovely dogs! So quiet too. Well done - he looks like a wonderful pet.

Cheers!

I know it's an old thread, sorry.  We just adopted a greyhound through GAP (Greyhound Adoption Program) Qld.   Charlie is a 2 yo red brindle boy who looks a lot like Benny actually.  Such gentle and quiet dogs.  I am converted!  We plan to take him with us camping wherever possible in the future.  We used to take our previous dog, a little Cavalier King Charles, but he was a yappy annoying thing.  I reckon the greyhound will be much less hassle, despite his size!

All that room in the back seat, lost for packing clothes and things you want quickly.
And all that dribble down ya neck, when he sticks his head out the window.
And yes, that window will have to be open all the time, just in case.
Been there already.
Well done for having a go, they're great family dogs.

We looked at the adoption thing years ago.. they had a rescue display at a show we went to.. couldn't agree more with others, they seemed great dogs.. and sadly as someone else said, most don't end up as happy stories like these couple...

Good on both for doing it.

hehehe, yeah true, but our kids take up a lot of space too!  Part of the reason I've been on myswag was to research camper options.  Hopefully one day soon we'll get a camper to take a lot of our camping gear out of the wagon and make weekend getaways quicker and easier.

Kids ride in the trailer or on the roof rack.
Don't they?
You lay em down on top.
If you sit 'em up they ruin the fuel economy!

If you do ever decide to race him, a tissue with some deep heat on it rubbed on his bum works a treat, but do it just before he goes in the chute.

He'll not only catch the mechanical hare, but go straight past it.

Its ok, you can thank me later.
