House Sitting Brisbane
« on: January 11, 2014, 04:12:13 PM »
Hi all,

Has anybody had experience with looking for trustwory house sitters, looking for sitters for 4 months in Brisbane starting mid July 2014 to Mid November 2014.

There seem to be plenty of websites out there, would appreciate any knowledge from experienced my swaggers in such matters, have 5 acres with sheep, chooks & aquaponics.

Thanks for any feedback, as it seems very daunting the aspect of letting your house to stangers, what do you leave in the house, so any info would be great.

cheers ezza

I haven't done it myself but my mate did it when he and his SWMBO went over seas for 2 months.

He used some web site and interviewed the people first, it took them a while to decide on who they got, they were an old gray nomad couple that wanted to stay in the one place for a while to see there rellies, they had police checks and references that they supplied as a matter of course.

The house and yard was better when they got back than when they left it, all worked out well for them.

We went through the Aussie House sitters web site and had a couple in our house for 6 months last year.  Due to the length of time we allowed them to use all of our house.  Some house sitters will bring their own caravan and live in it and just use your bathroom and maybe kitchen.  We empted our bedroom cupboards and allowed them to use that bedroom because it had the best bed and the room was air conditioned.  Our place is 61 acres and we left them with very detailed instructions as well as a signed agreement.  Unfortunately for us they did not adhere to some of our instructions so we were a bit disappointed when we got back.  I think looking after our place was just too much for them, even thought we fully explained what was required to them prior to them agreeing.  But at least we were able to get away for that period and we knew they were very trustworthy, so we did not have to lock away valuables. We also were able to leave our dog and she was well looked after.  So be prepared to interview prospective people, really explain what you want and be sure they understand. Complete detailed instructions with contact people and phone numbers.  The house sitters web site has a lot of info to assist.  Good luck.  Kevin

I am a real estate agent and I just let out someone's house for them while they are away for four months. If you go down this route you'll get an income and someone to look after your home.
