new to the game
« on: October 11, 2013, 12:43:13 PM »
hi all,

new member here hailing from mackay in qld...

looking to get myself a camper trailer for my family (wife and two young sons).  i have a few questions:

any brands to look for? any brands to steer clear of?
looking at getting a arkpak for power and pair it with a agm battery.  any thoughts?  would i be better making my own device?

i have a 2012 mazda bt50 dualcab (2wd highrise) for towing and a $6000 budget to get into it...

not looking for offroad capability first up, as i don't have a 4wd.  mainly on-road stuff...

i had my eye on this one:

http://www.swagcampertrailers.com.au/camper-trailers/seeker-camper-trailer-semi-off-road

thoughts?

anyways, thanks for accepting me into the forum and hopefully this begins a long and happy association with CT's... :)

First up welcome to the forum.  Secondly, may I suggest you go to the forum's home page and use the search function.  Lots of discussion on many different makes of CTs.  No idea about the swag campers but suggest if you are a bit handy with some tools then making your own 12V gear is a cheaper option than the Arkpak (which is good gear by the way)

Happy camping

Ask ozstickman about the swag campers, he has just taken delivery of one. Beware the boat loader though. ;D

Cheers, Marschy

Welcome Pacey,

Lots of choices available. Just start by listing what you want and research all the many types available.
Did I say research!!! Make sure you are happy and don,t worry what is said about various brands. There are lots of very happy people with all the brands that will be knocked because they just happen to be made some where else in the world.

All the best,

Rob

Welcome Pacey

Good to see another Mackayite on here.

Cant offer much help with CT, as i'm a newbie myself (still waiting for mine to be made/finished/delivered/picked up next week supposedly  ??? ??? ???).
But what i did find in all my searching was that their doesnt seem to be a lot of price variation between used & new, though i'd suspect a used oz made job would probably be better than the new import. Troll through the classifieds on here & you may find a good complete setup for your budget. I do empathise with you tho as i found it frustrating that their wasnt much locally that you can look & touch.
But hey, the search is half the fun, so good luck.
