Kerb side clean up
« on: August 19, 2013, 03:04:33 PM »
At the moment in Brisbane my suburb is getting the yearly Kerb side clean up. For those who don’t know it just means your able to put certain junk on the footpath and the council pick it up for free.

It’s quite interesting what people dump and the scavengers have a field day picking out the good items. Yesterday I passed a 6T truck with hundreds of old TV’s in the back. I presume they are after the gold in the connections and copper from the cords, but that must be a tough way to make money.

It also makes me laugh how people put single items on the footpath like half a garden hose or one small bedside draw or a old broken toaster. Must be a case that over the past 12 months they haven’t had any room in there bin for this small item to fit, so this yearly clean-up is the only way to get rid of this item.

We used to have a similar thing here in Newcastle.
But they have stopped the annual one and replaced it with a call and collect system.
Preferred the yearly one though.

Up in Brisbane the council encourage people taking item left on the footpath as it dramatically reduces the amount they need to collect.
