I have to agree with Symon, it was no fun in the swag when it rained last year at the cape.

I dont see the point of a swag inside a tent. Just a massive extra cost.
??? what am I missing? ???

What SteveandViv said, plus Rays Outdoors currently have a special on for members - a 5 man dome tent for $49 (that's $50 off RRP)

At that price cost isn't an issue for the convenience of insect/gremlins protection, weather protection and the greater options for sleeping arrangements. Dome tents shouldn't take up that much room, compared to other options.

Space is going to be our biggest issue. I'm not known for packing light, and at this stage, it's either the kids or food ::) ...or the beer for hubby :-\

I'm missing the camper already :'(

I vote beer and food...  >:D

I miss my camper too, and it hasn't even gone yet!!!

I have no issue with the tent, infact I have a 1 man hiking tent (although havent used in about 7yrs) that was perfect for 1 nighters. Just puttin swags in tents still has me baffled. Double handling for want of a better term.

As I said earlier, my kids have and continue to sleep in them (swags), within the CT, but if they want they can sleep outside under the awning. The swags pack well, lying on the QS mattress. Simple to make up and a lot quicker to set up when you arrive at your destination. Its just another kind of bedding

I guess it depends on the swag - mine are (very) basic canvas swags - they don't have insect mesh. (But they do have basic coverings for rain protection) So, unless I use some extra insect protection I get bitten like nuthin else. Because when I camp, I generally used the camper with bed/s, most of my swag use has pretty much been restricted to use as a "portable mattress". Believe it or not, most of my swag sleeping has been on a lounge room floor sleeping off the previous nights festivities. (Not the festivities part, just the lounge room floor part  8) ) All the remainder has been in a tent because mozzies love me more than my wife...

I have three kids and they (and us) all have swags. In some areas you will have to be weary of rodents and I wouldnt sleep in our swag then, you would need a tent...Having said that though, when we did our trip in the desert, we all slept in our swags and the kids loved it....you can sleep around the camp fire, just buy a good sleeping bag.

i swag it every chance i can get......i also did the simpson in a swag, it ended up being just three boys....

all the planning was around 3 boys one girl, we all had single swags, for a change room we opted for one of the canvass square tents, four pegs one pole (spreader bar with two poles) as the change room, the kids we 2 and 5 so they were always going to sleep in the the tent.

i agree its nice for the ladies to have a change room where you can stand instead of getting changed twice a day laying horizontal

re: swags, i don't get why camper put sleeping bags in their swags, sort off defeats the purpose as you are waisting all that extra room of the swag.......as its going to be very cold out there in june/july your swags will be quite large as ours were as we had sheets, blanket, doona and pillows rolled up......

when we leave the camper trailer at home we use swags, 1 x double (as my new bride and i are still on our hneymoon) and three singles. 2 x square canvass tents for bad weather and we set one up as a change room

we bought an Oz-trail Breezeway 4 for our 2 girls, included a self inflating mattress as well
We leave the mattress inside the floor/insect mesh section and that sits on top of the CT tent and the cover still zips over everything so the only thing we have in the tent bag is the outside cover and poles etc.

Great tent, stands up to big weather and rain etc, plus standing room inside

So when we get to a site just a matter of sliding off the tent base with mattress, find their spot and they are set up in less than 5 mins...
supposedly so they can assist with the CT setup but somehow that does not happen!
