Lots of replies...and yes they are 2 different cars but unfortunately the wife and I had 2 very different wants....until she test drove the Prado  ;D

Sure it was not as luxurious as the Terra but she got out of the Prado after the test drive with a big smile on her face....now we are just working out figures with the dealer.

Hopefully in the next week or 2 there will be a Prado sitting in my driveway!

Thanks for all the comments I have enjoyed reading them,

Hilly.

Hilly,
I really think you have done the right thing..it will give you a lot more flexibility as to where you can go..even if you don't need it know, you will find further down the track that you will want it (as we did).

Make sure you post the pictures when you get it.

eheheh good one, that is how I ended up with a Prado. We had been planning on a big trip and we needed a new car, my wife was so against 4wd, I thought I could convince her to get a small car and then a 4wd for the trip..she was horrified and reckon that option was too expensive...she relucantly agreed to look at 4wds one day, so checked them all out. Territory, Mitsubishi, Nissann and had no intention of buying one as I thought it would take me a long time to work on her. We were walking to the Toyota dealership and I heard...I like that color blue, lets test drive it. Up until this point all I had heard was not enough storage, too boxy, not enough room for the kids, too common,

She went around the block, took it back got out and said I love it and the color is fantastic...I bought it, I couldnt get my credit card out quick enough to put the deposit down.

She now loves the Prado and whenwe drive a normal car, she doesnt like it. She has even done a 4wd course.

Congrats on the purchase.

I am on to my 3rd Prado so you can guess what my recommendation would have been!

Done 6500 Kay's in the last 4 weeks from Melbourne to Cooktown and halfway back in our 2012 gx prado auto diesel towing our camper with our kids, do not have a bad word to say about it, fuel economy is great, you won't be disappointed. Cruises comfortably on the terrible QLD roads in 38 degree heat yet punting around the national parks and beaches with ease.

We did the" we need a new 4x4" thing in January after selling the 380000 Kay old gu 4.2  and the price nearly put us off the Toyota but after talking to heaps of people, we really stretched the budget to get it and we love it. Very capable 4x4 straight off the dealership.

We have had good after sales service from Toyota as well which surprised us but made us very happy.

It's my wife's school run trolley during the week normally and she loves driving it as much as I do.

Definitely made the right choice, one was engineered by little Japanese people who are never satisfied with their finished product and continue to improve every aspect of their vehicles, the other one by a gang of Aussies in Geelong with the help of some cowboys in Detroit (there travelling well!) by injecting growth hormones into a tired old taxi engine & chassis.

You can pretty much bank on years of confident motoring & travelling in the Toyota:)
